For science, we are doing similar as you - I am hoping it is enough and CA1 questions will not be too difficult. 🙏

A mummy said her daughter's teacher (same school as son) wrote down what will be tested for CA1 Science. Honestly, I'm still very much at a loss and VERY WORRIED.
      P5: Water and its stages
P4: Cycles (life cycles of animals/plants)
      P3: Living & non-living things

Really have no idea what will be tested.... 🙏 hard it won't be too difficult bcos from past year records, son's Science exams are out of this world.

I remember my Science papers in primary school once tested us on our logic and science application instead of the theory. I would suggest revising the topics that are tested, make sure to have good foundation. Then look out for tricky, 'special' or challenging science questions. These are some questions that one can try and attempt and study. 🙂
      All the best. 🙂

My DD just had a meltdown… She’s not used to failing. I had to give her a pep talk "was I upset with your results? Why must you compare yourself with those better than you?". Inside I was giggling… Amazed at how P5 has changed me.

It’s the 2nd month and she felt defeated. Had to get her to breathe slowly coz she was sobbing so hard.

Peony, oh dear ! Was it Maths test ? Yes, the marathon is long and need to keep the motivation up. My ds is quite worried about CA1 maths exam as the FT mentioned few times about Paper1 & paper2, time managment etc. I just tell him to try his best and we'll see how.

Janet, we were given the CA1 science topics but science is so wide and all kinds of funny/tricky questions may pop-up. This is where their process skills will be tested so we'll just try our best and see what kind of damage control we need after CA1.

This week ds did the 3rd EL mock paper (given by school) and the cloze passages are tough !
Oh gees...I am grumbling about every subject !

Mommies, let's press on ! :celebrate:

Yup, the 8 out of 20 for maths affected her. That plus HMT...

I reminded her gently that it was her choice and that choice once made, must be honoured for at least a year. This is coz I want her to learn to make careful decisions and to at least try whatever she embarks on without giving up way too soon.

Although she was offered HMT, I was very hesitant and even spoke to the teacher who assured me she could do it. But feel so sad that my DD feels like a failure coz of it.

Our role as parents to cheer them on!

Yes, pixiedust, let's ride the storm! :celebrate:

              Hi Peony,

I just talked to hubby yesterday regarding son's school work...as long as we see effort put in for his CA1, we shouldn't press him to score esp since he needs adjustment to a new school term.

              Pixiedust,
Science is so vast and topics can be anything at this point. Just have to get him to revise his P3/4 stuff eg properties of living/non-living things.
Mock paper most prob will be given this week according to his teacher.
Don't worry, I'm grumbling about everything related to his school work 😉

              livewith_vanilla,
              Thanks for your valuable advice.
Have you adjusted to life in Sec 1 ?

              Mummies,
We have moved on to be MOTIVATORS instead of disciplinary masters. It's REAL school now for our P5 kids but we have to press on bcos this is just the beginning of more knocks to come.

                yes Janet, I totally agree.

Even as she cried I was "amused" at how the role has changed. DD was the one who was upset with her results and comparing herself to those who did well and I was the one telling her not to.

Have reassured her that it’s her attitude and effort that matter most to me. I’ll give her whatever support she needs provided she herself keeps a positive attitude.

Yes, our roles have indeed changed...although we sit in the same room, most of the time my attention is on younger child in P1 but what my son wants is my presence. I always tell my son, his effort is all I want...人比人,气死人. Just this morn, he told me a boy who always misbehaves in class is always getting 90+ for his 听写 and worksheets. Advised him not to compare but work on his carelessness and remember to be careful.

I think crying or comparing is better than they bo cha. That’s show that they have the desire to improve.

Sounds like your kiddos have 开窍 liao! So now just need to load with tons of encouragement and support to get them through.

My ds has had so many activities in school - camp, supplementary classes, CCas, etc etc. Struggle to finish homework everyday. He is usually completely knocked out by 8ish. Poor chap. Hope he gets used to the pace soon as I anticipate it will get more hectic not less. 😞

The best part, is son is shaking his head when I coach daughter in her work...her very behaviour was just like him back in P1 then. HaHaHa.
