My girl lost around 10 marks for her math test because of her careless. :oops:

Last year, she actually maintained her math score around 90 and not much careless mistake since P4.

Don't know why this round did so many careless mistake. Worry me.

My boy did fairly well for his 3 other subject but a shocking for his Maths. I am not sure what contribute to that but I must not rule out stress and tension. Is like so many things to cope and manage. Will continue to monitor him and give him whatever support and encouragement. I agree with Sally that nowadays, kids are extremely stressful in school!!

I think the lack of confidence in the subject may be one reason for the stress/tension. Working through past year papers and able to do the questions should give him the moral boost. On the other hand there are so many papers to practise and the child may feel more stress if he is not able to do papers well. How is your child coping with the papers?

From the Parent Session in my boy school, we were told that calculation of PSLE score is using the T Score. Therefore it doesn't mean that A* is 91 & above, A is 75 - 90, the A* & A mark is based on the whole co-opt result to calculate.

But somehow I happen to know from my friend, in her son boy school during the Parent Session the Principle told them that PSLE A* & A is still A* is 91 & above, A is 75 - 90A* etc.

Pls correct right me if I'm wrong.

They are marked based on % of students scoring A* i believe. Every year, there will always be a certain % scoring A* and A. Of course the % always fluctuate here and there at about ±2%.


In the same way, the marks could also fluctuate between 89 and 93 and so on.

Results are marked and grades assigned based on Normal curve. So depending on how cohort does, an A* could be 90% this year and 80% another year. The T-Score is a comparison score among the entire cohort, not raw score.

Here is PSLE grading system:


GRADE MARK RANGE
A* 91 TO 100
A 75 TO 90
B 60 TO 74
C 50 TO 59
D 35 TO 49
E 20 TO 34
U UNGRADED < 20

The range will remain the same from year to year. But I am not sure whether it is calculated based on raw score or normalised score.

There is also a T-Score aggregate calculator on the same page. You can use that to estimate your child's T-score. Bear in mind that factors such as difficulty level of papers and the performance of your child in comparison to his cohort's will determine the score.

If i'm not mistaken, the number of As and A*s are not entirely or accurately reflective of the T-score. So there isn't any exact number your child has to achieve to achieve a T-score of 245.

I would say the most important thing is to allow your child to achieve the best he/she can. I would say very frankly that a lot is dependent on luck so do your best and keep your fingers crossed

Hi All

In order for a child to score a PSLE T score of 245, how many As and A* does he/she has to score?

The best estimate of the T score that I know of is to multipy the total score of 4 subjects by 0.72. This has proven to be quite a good estimate. Therefore, to get a T score of 245, a child needs to get an average of 85 marks for the 4 subjects.
