Hi Hans,Hi Shanghaied
You has a very smart DD. She has been stayed in shanghai since young?
That's a great compliment!
My DD studied in Shanghai since primary 1. Before that she was in a kindergarten in Singapore. So she has spent - to-date - more than half her life in Shanghai. -
Shanghaied:
does she speak fluent shanghainese ?

Kids in primary and secondary schools nowadays speak Mandarin to each other. Other kids speak to their elders in Shanghainese, but my DD speaks Mandarin to her mother and English to me.
Unfortunately that means she speaks 'zero' Hokkien. C'est la vie. -

life isnt that busy yet.Hi fatal-illuxions,
Thanks again for your reply
I guess you JC 1 life must be busy, busy & interesting!
Q again :? Is it true that RGS will not have Mid year exam when it is SYF year (like this year)?
it's on the process of getting crazy i think haha.
I dunno about the relation between SYF and mid years. The school has always been changing their system here and there, timetable, exam, and whatnot.
ps. I AM SUPER JEALOUS OF THE TIMETABLING THIS YEAR. you lucky people who get early dismissal haha!! XD -

Thanks fatal-illuxions for the illuminating reply!
i asked my friend who's in RA haha, cos im notfatal-illuxions:
Hi Fatal-illuxions,
On another note, what good does RA do at Year 3 and Year 4? Is it considered bonus? Does it make admission to JC easier? Will it also be carried forward to JC?
Thanks in advance.
its a really good exposure. cos the ra curriculum is accelerated and you'll cover much more stuff that is not done in the normal syllabus.
there are also like additional tests and projects, which ensures that the material is understood. also the pracs and research that you do are like really in depth.
generally better discussion and more depth is covered.
it doesnt like help in adding points or stuff like that but the content that you cover for ra really helps, as in cos its all stuff at jc or even higher level, so content wise you're better off!
it has nothing to do with the admission to JC, afterall no matter what, as long as you dont screw up your sec4 year, you'll go up.
It doesnt continue in JC, you'll have to take placement tests all over again to see if you'll qualify for RA in JC. but it should be pretty fine cos they mostly test what is possibly taught in RGS.
so yupp
My DD was recently transferred to RA Maths. She really wanted RA Physics but was advised against it, since she already had RA Maths.
There was also this thing about Integrated Programme Selection Test. Heard anything about it? Apparently it has something to do with Edusave Scholarship. I wonder how much it will take before we know the results of the test.
Thanks once again.
IMO, i think the IPST is just to help families financially. it's just like for those who entered RGS by PSLE, most of us are on scholarship such that we only pay 13bucks per school fee. you daughter transferred into rgs right? it's probably just a test to see if you qualify for the scholarship. the scholarship will sustain to JC
haha, and np. i actually enjoy reading and replying all the questions here on the forum. i find it relatively interesting, and i get to know and \"see\" how parents really care for their children, and really want the best for them by being able to make informed choices and advices for them.
because my own parents never did these things, we were more like čĩ°ä¸æĨįŽä¸æĨ kind of thing, and i just kinda figured my way here and there haha.
oh well. most importantly, just enjoy life in rgs
it's alot less stupid without the guys around haha!

Yes, I've noticed from the forum for other schools there are some really 'sharp' and meticulous parents. I actually have a relative who knew nothing about DSA, let alone sports DSA, etc. and their eldest daughter is taking PSLE this year.
So yeah, it pays to be 'informed', and thoroughly for good measure. -

The only things we know with any amount of certainty are that she is in RA Math and takng part in the impending AMC (12B or something like that).

hi fatal-illuxions,
Since 2009, the edusave scholarship covers only part of the school fees. ie. $2400 per annum or $200 per month. The school fees at RGS is $300 plus misc fee of another less than $50(forgot the exact amount). Therefore, scholarship holders need to fork out another $100 plus per month, in addition to some other expenses like orientation, CCA, etc. How I wish it's still at 13bucks per month....

this is the part i go OH MY GOSH ARE YOU SERIOUS?!
it only affects the sec1 batch of 2009 onwards is it? i remembered when i was sec1, i only had to pay 13bucks, that's excluding the 260+ bucks for the worksheets and enrichments and random stuff right at the start of the year. i didnt have to pay for orientation though, and CCA is another thing altogether, so definitely will have to pay.
my mum just asked me for my CURRENT school fees, but i myself have no idea about it. Do you? -
