Singapore has AVA to ensure all food source is safe. I think it shld be alright to consume. Anyway isn't it good news that your boy love fish?Hi,

Good to mix around big and small fish. For large fishes (eg. cod, tuna), don’t give the fish skin as that part contains the most toxins, if any. Farmed salmon is ok but may have growth hormones. Don’t give shark meat to kids. Sharks are at the top of the food chain = most toxins.

e3nity, with news of food items being recalled off the shelves, it is hard to put faith in "AVA" on ensuring our foods are safe.
Yes,it is good that my Boy like fishes. It make my cooking chore so much easy.Put some slices of ginger and some sauce, put in steamer or oven and that it.Settle a meal. The bad part is will he be over-dose on fishes? …
Cherrygal,my boy love skins the most.I do use salt to hard clean the salt, does this help to clean off the tonic. How do you tell whether are the fish farmed or not? It seem fish seller dont even know which country do the salmon or cod come from… Where can i find out these informations? -
well those recalls are preserved food. I don't recall AVA recalling fresh food from the market? Correct me if i'm wrong.

I think so too for fresh food but I am not sure what kind of measurement do they use. That raise my concern on whether eating our local fishes on daily basic can lead to high level of metal mercury store in our body.
I do believe what we eat in-directly affect our mind, our behaviour.
So hope I can learn from many parents here what are the fishes they avoid or give to children.

My 2.14 cents.
Salmon: unless it’s stated wild salmon, otherwise it’s farmed salmon.
It’s alleged dat farmed salmons hv 10x more PCBs (which accumulate in d
body n is a carcinogen) than wild salmons so should be eaten sparingly.
Patin: Don’t know if d report is true, d images r worrisome –
go google n decide for yourself.
Mercury in fishes: Mercury, dioxins accumulate in d body n d mercury
becomes toxic beyond a certain limit.
AVA: It’s logistically impossible for AVA to check all imported foods.
Inspecting n vetting overseas food sources provides an additional layer of check.
AVA do sampling tests of imported foods so it’s still possible dat a bad batch might go thro. -

Haha, Vegetables also got lots of pesticides unless you talking about organic. $8 per head of organic broccoli… super ex
Jaisbiz,
Using salt to clean the fish skin does not remove the lead, mercury or other toxins stored in the skin. The fish skin has already absorbed the toxins from the polluted sea. The best is not to eat the skin of large fishes. You can give him fish skin from smaller fishes such as selar, tilapia, sea bass, kuning etc.
Don’t add salt to leatherjackets. The flesh is already very salty as I believe they cured the fish with some salt after removing the tough outer skin. -
Mackerel? Sardines? Generally smaller fishes lower down in the food chain would not be as toxic.
