Comparing the common available info from RI and HCI, it seems that RI is doing much better than HCI across the board

RI have 3 scholars of 9 distinctions where HCI has 1

RI has 76 eight distinctions and above, HCI has 60

RI has 331 having perfect scores where HCI has 94. This is more than 3.5 times more than HCI

RI have 53% scoring distinctions in GP. HCI has 40%
Thanks for the summary. Looking at the perfect score category, RI & HCI together produce 425 of them. If we add the other JCs I think the total will be about at least 450. It is really tough to get into medicine (only about 260 places).

Tan Zhi Xiang from RV should be the absolute top student this year since he has 4H2, 2H1, 2H3 ,HMT (A1) and Gold medal from IPS while Koh Ming Ming has 4H2, 3H1, 1H3 and HMT (A1). All the other 4 have only A2 for HMT.

In my opinion, RI is too overrated. Also, most of them are very proud. Well that is what I think. Hwa Chong has a better community overall.

There is something special about RV's culture. Before RV goes IP, most of their top O-level students went on to be among the top scholars in RJ. Won't be surprised if RV catches up with RI & HCI in a few years time. But only one setback I noted - they are super hardworking.

              Why would u consider \"super hardworking\" a setback? :?

I think getting what you want through hard work is a good virtue. It is 100 times better than trying get achieve something through gimick.

Spending too much time studying - actually they already very good. Should relax more and engage in other activities and they will still perform equally well. That is why setback - too focus on study.

You go to you tube and you'll find some playful clips that RV's students have made, be it for CNY celebrations or other things. I don't find this kind of stuffs for RI and HCI students.

OIC. Agree students shd develop in different aspects besides study.
My DS relates about a classmate who is always burrowed in books n
is physically un-coordinated (my words) n jokes dat he is a walking fountain of knowledge.
He is one of d top students in his class.
I think its too one sided development.

All the posturing by the various schools HCI, RI and RV (see also RV thread) on their websites is a result of some silly journalist who plugged a headline without properly examining the numbers (and perhaps presenting them).

Something called "balanced reporting". All the journalist needed to do was tabulate and report. The headline that is hot enough to light a fire in too many hearts was unnecessary.

It has set off some sensitivities and created unnecessary tension, and instigated the various schools (and their partisans) to show the ugly faces of competitiveness. If things get worse, we will soon be laughing at our nation’s top educational institutions.

                        We’re not yet there though…

And at the end of the day, the school who comes out smelling like roses, will be the one which demonstrates the greatest restraint and gentlemanliness. And since most parents care about character as much as results, that will be the school with competitive edge in recruiting students.
