Troubled by Tutor's action

My ds didn't mentioned before until last week, that occassionally she will step on his feet.

I find it puzzling too but now I wonder is it because she has more students now. We have been recommending her to our friends whom I know she charges more as their kids are on higher levels.

At times, I wonder if it is just frustration of teaching that overcomes her. Sigh, don't know if I should talk to her first or just let ds quit. Afterall, I still have two other ds under her at childcare.

Agree to have a good talk with the tutor and give your ds a break. I heard from my friends that her tutor who pulled her dd’s hair when dd could not understand after repeated instructions. :x


i guess some tutors are just not patient enough and tutoring may not be their passion.

I think you should do some investigation. Like ask the kids that were in the class at the time. Just to have a fair view of what happened.


If the teacher really did do those things. Then I would change the tutor immediately. Under no circumstances that the tutor is allowed to do this to a child.

Being a tutor myself, i do agree that tutor have certain level of stress to cope and it can get frustrating when the student simply cant answer what i have just taught.


Nevertheless it is definitely not acceptable for the tutor to behave in such manner toward your child. Not matter how many students she have now, such behavior can be quite worrying. In addition, i am afraid after what she have did to your child, whether or not intentionally or unintentionally, your child would have certain level of fear toward the tutor. Such fear is definitely undesirable for young kids.

Thank you for your concerns and feedback.

I had a good chat with the teacher last week. She has informed me that my ds didn’t concentrate well and this frustrates her. I’ve informed her to let me know if she has any concerns about this in future. Also, informed her due to my ds sensitive nature, to inform me as I do not want him to have any phobia/scared towards her lessons. I hope she has noted and will continue to monitor.

As for my ds, I’ve asked him to give her another chance and to let me know immediately should this things happen in future.

Hi. I think it is important to know the circumstances that lead to the incident. For example, the child did not concentrate, is it because the question is too difficult? If say, the question is too difficult, that means the tutor did not have the patience to teach difficult questions. If not, it means that the child is a rotten apple, not wanting to learn properly.


If the tutor is impatient to teach difficult questions, of course u change tutor. if the child is not willingly to leard even easy questions, then sacking the tutor will send the wrong message to your child.

Also, if your child is unwillingly to learn, is it because he is already scoring A*? If that is the case, of course he will find tuition an unnecessary chore. If your child is a border line case and still dare to show bad attitude, then u have to really let him suffer the physical punishments.

I used to hire some irresponsible home tutor before and my kid did complaint that the teacher didn’t teach her much thing and always SMSing during the lesson. Some time late and fall asleep…


In the end, my hubby ask someone install the CCTV into the study room. everything solved…

Actually there is no need to spend money installing CCTV. You have all the right to be in the study room when she is teaching your son.

I used to be a private tutor before, and I have taught many young children. Parents/grandparents were always present and they could hear and see clearly how I was teaching. A good tutor has nothing to hide. If she insists that you leave the study room, then you should change a new tutor.
