Just to share an update.


2008 2B Phase for

ACS Primary (Barker Rd).
Anglo Chinese School (Primary) has places only for children who have registered in the school and are living within 1km of the school. Therefore, children living outside 1 km of the school are unsuccessful in their registration. No balloting will be conducted in Anglo Chinese School (Primary).

ACS Junior
After Phase 2A, left 61 for Phase 2B.
Balloting required for those > 2km.
There are a total of 49 registered who are more than >2km. And there are only 27 vacancies available.
Out of the 27, there are a pair of twins. Thus, if one of the twin is been selected, the other twin will also be in naturally.

I'm so happy that my boy is in!!!!! Butterfly knots when they are doing the balloting!!! Phew! Thank GOD!!!!

Thanks Chief! Balloting was conducted this morning at 8.30am.

Couldn't sleep the whole of last night!!! THis is worst than any exams or interviews or even any presentation that I have in my life!!! Ha! Ha! Some parents was sharing that when you heard your child name been called out, the feeling is even better than winning a lottery!!! Although I have never nor do I bet on any gambling... but the feeling of knowing that I have secured a seat for my boy is Really overwhelming!

Sigh..... unfortunately, I might have to do this all over again in another 2 years for my little girl.

But the next round for my girl in 2 years time, my 2 choices will be:
1) MGS (within 1 to 2km) under Phase 2B
2) PeiWah (<1KM) and to do PV under Phase 2B.
So to see which I should go for. So...till then....

Did you bring your kid along for the balloting? You should.

I've never won any lottery in my life, and I say I no longer need to anymore, because I won the most important lottery in my life when I was 6 years old.

I come from a not-so-well-off working class family, and my father and mother were both uneducated and clueless about schooling other than to send us to neighborhood schools in the MacPherson area. As a pre-school kid, I was lazy and unmotivated... failed all my exams in the PAP kindy and ended up last in class... not that I cared then.

Somehow, my mother got wind of an opportunity to send me to St. Andrew's Junior for P1. It was one of the top schools in the nation in the early 70s. So she packed me off one day and we made a trip down for the registration. Being a hot school, it was already the last stage of the registration exercise and they have to ballot because about 50 odd people were vying for only about 20 vacancies. The school hall was packed with people and the atmosphere heavy with anticipation. My mother's hand tightened around mine each time the name on the selected ticket was read, and loosened in disappointment when it wasn't mine. It went on and on for 19 times.

Mine was the last name to be called. I looked up and for the first time in my life, I saw tears streaming down my mother's face. It was at that moment that I finally realized how important this was to her and how much she loved me to go through all the trouble of getting through the system just to get me into that school. It was the turning point for me. I suddenly had a purpose in life, and that is to make the best use of this hard-won opportunity and to make my mother's effort all worthwhile. Throughout my life, whenever I have to do a major exam, project or presentation, I always recall this particular moment in my life and understand why I'm doing what I have to do. It was to make my mother proud of me.

Your personal life story really touch me. I totally could feel it!

This morning, when I drove my kids to kindergarten, my boy asked, \"Mom, what if I couldn't go into the either ACS or Peiwah ? Where will I go?\"

Somehow, that question really worried me, cos' it has always been the question...what if, what if....etc for the past 1 month. But I just smile and told him, \"If gonna be alright. Jesus loves you and mommy believe and trust that God will always give you the school that He knows what is the best for you. Just pray and have faith. Leave it to Him.\" He smile and gave me a big hug before he hops off to his class.

Just now, before he goes for his bedtime. He hugged me and whisper in my ear..\"Mommy, thank you.. thank you for doing so much and praying for me. God has answered our prayers. I will be a good boy and I will do my best in school.\"

I guess..I will never forget this.

I registered an account when I read this story cos it was the exact story for me except in a different school..not the last but the last second drawn(just as bad) and felt the tremendous pressure even at 6YO especially my cousin who was recommended by my mom to try struck lottery before us!!! Till now, I never thanked my mom enough for her foresight as I had done well for my life and now my child gets the same chance.. It was not an experience I wished to be repeated though...for my kid and grandkids and greatgrand kids....... :lol:
