of the 2 urls, I've got the first one - 佐贺的超级阿嬷. This is the one that both my DD and I read. I also didn't buy the whole series but only this book for 佐贺的超级阿嬷.
I've also asked my friend to bring back 窗边的小豆豆. Will see if it managed to interest my DD and share here.
For books in a series (like 笑猫), I will usually buy one first. If it manage to engage my kids, then I will buy the other books in the series. Otherwise, quite a waste of money. Recently I bought a book from 大头儿子升级版, but somehow both my DD and DS didn't like.ksme:
Can anyone help me to clarify what is the difference between these 2 佐贺的超级阿嬷 :

I am not sure if they are the same although according to the details, the chapters seem to be different.

Did you buy all the books in this series? Do you know how many are there ? (Seems like 5 to me but not sure) Why don't they sell it as a series, so much easier.:roll: Looks quite interesting to me and thinking of placing an order but wondering whether I should get all the related books and which ones are they.
Btw, for 窗边的小豆豆, do you recommend the whole series or just the first book?

Ya, you are right, she does influence her siblings which is quite positive. Are you ok with your gal reading during meal times? My gal will get scolding from me if she reads during meal times. I only allow her to bring a book to long dinners, so after she is done (but adults still eating) then she can read. I dont allow her to read in car too, this is a rule i set and very firm on it, so from young they know they cannot read in car, I am scared they wear glassesporcupine12trade:

Actually it is very good to have an older girl who loves to read, she sets a very good example. You will see the positive influence in your younger ones when they grow older.
My older girl reads even when she is having her lunch and dinner, and she reads when she goes to the toilet to do her business. My younger boy is influenced by her and he can spend a few hours reading books.
My girl used to read only English novels before she enters P1. By the end of P1, she declared that she likes to read Chinese novels better. It can take only one year for the \"reversal\" if we find the right books for our kids, and also read with them.
By the way, is there any good 杨红樱 books for starter like my gal? l have 不一样的卡梅拉 but think she is not ready for them. actually i realised she likes to read chinese stories (but from angmoh translated) BUT must hv hypy, sigh. I find the older they are, the more difficult to \"change\"? I see my younger ones, from dont know chinese at all, to love chinese stories, willing to converse in mandarin and begin to like chinese alot! but my eldest, like no change. -

I don't mind that she reads as she eats, so long as she does not take too long to finish her food. I allow her to read at any time, even in the car, or waiting for me while I shop in stores.
Too many kids are wearing glasses these days, I think it is difficult to prevent. I do not need to wear glasses, hopefully my kids will have my genes
Why don't you try to ask her to read 不一样的卡梅拉 out loud and help her with words that she does not know ? It is fine is there are some words that she does not know in each page, just teach her and she will learn. Don't worry if she does not know many words, she will learn very quickly if you do this regularly. I also highly recommend the 露露和拉拉 series of books for her. Older children can focus for longer periods of time and learn more, but we cannot expect them to read on their own, we must ask them to read out loud and help them.
My P1 boy has read 6 books in the 不一样的卡梅拉 series, thanks to the Si Wu Kuai Du books, he knows about 80% to 90% of the words, and that is enough for him to enjoy the stories. He learned many new words after he has the completed the series.
There are some 杨红樱 starter books that are in hanyu pinyin :

You can find them in Popular bookshop. But don't buy her too many, just try 2 or 3. We must let kids read books without hanyu pinyin otherwise they will not learn the Chinese words. -

For Children who have fairly strong foundation in Chinese, it's quite ok to have the hypy, I've found .... but not for those who are still shaky in reading Chinese. Bc I found recently that when we read books from library and others which come with hypy, my 2yo disregards them and only reads the Chinese words. If the hypy is the same size as the words, it's distracting to me though. Not sure about him. -

The other version is 80,000 words which is 20,000 words more than xiao mao guess may be more suitable in the later stage.

Anyway, the copy borrowed from library seems to be the 80000 words version although the picture on the cover page is different. Actually, ds doesn't have much time now due to school work. Most likely it is me who will be reading the book. -
Dear ksme, 佐贺的超级阿嬷is written in such a way that each chapter (about 5 to 8 pages) narrates an anecdote. Because some parts are funny, I will laugh out loud or read aloud a short part in my DD's presence. This will usually get her interested and she will pick up the book during her break from school work just to read that Chapter. This is how she finished the book - over 2 weeks period.
For me, any additional Chinese reading that DD does is positive - so even if she can read only 1 Chapter in a week, I count that as a bonus!ksme:

佐贺的超级阿嬷 is one of the most meaningful books that I have ever read. I really hope that schools make every student read this book.
