Hi xian_kai, my dd FT said that they'll have test after each topic. Then they gauge the kids' standard from there.

      Thanks

Is anyone going for the PTA session in early April. The timing is very early though.

Unlikely to be going as there is no one to take care of my son who would still be sleeping at that timing. The timing is too early, it would be better if it could be later say at 9 am. If anyone is going, appreciate if you could post an update on the talk. Thanks.

It is actually the informal breakfast talk with the principal and teachers, starting 4 April. The school has already issued a letter on this and on it is the specific date assigned for the P1 classes e.g. 1A to C on 4 April.

After getting to know more about West Grove....my impression and perception of this school/vice-principal totally changed. I started to like the school..and believe it a suitable learning environment for my Kids. 😄

I agreed with what you have said. The vice principal that i met basically dun care about what kind of parent i am and what is my strength that i can contribute to the school. They are just looking for free labour to be a gate keeper. The vice principal keep mentioning of their need to get gate keeper. To be frank, the school didn't leave me with good impression. Now, I have hesitation to put my girl in the school...

I wondering whether Rulang's interviewers do the same thing or not? Anyone succeed in getting Rulang's PV?
Hmmm, I am considering WG as one of my choice to do PV too.
Any idea if they restrict the number of PV intake for year 2012? Dont want to end up ballot out after my precious 40 hours.

When I went for their PV talk 2 years ago, they were saying the importance of doing gate duties (if it's so important as they emphasis, why arrange for PV and not security guards to do?). Now 2 years later, they are still talking about gate duties! Wonder why the \"obsession\" over this gate duties on their side

And I think given a span of 12 months, there should be ample duties (sports day, outings etc) for PV to do rather than merely gate duties.

I have done my 40 hrs of PV in West Grove, helping out during recess time. Currently, I have signed up to be in the Parent Support Group and is helping out with the Buddy Reading Programme and some adhoc duties. From my experience with the school, I have found that the school has placed the well being of the children as utmost important.

In view of this, gate duty (as some might find rather mandane, judging from the post in this forum) whereby the PV helps to supervise the children as they wait for their parents to fetch them, is probably one of the duties that the school felt essential to ensure safety and order duing the school dismissal time. As a parent, I’m glad that there are gate keepers around as my child will not be left alone in case I am late in fetching him. Thus do not underestimate the duty of the gate keeper.

My take is that if you intend to do PV, you need to have an open mind and be committed to what you have signed up for. Remember it is voluntary, ie. you are doing it out of your own will for the benefit of others, without expecting any return. Of course, in this case, you are likely to get a placement for your kid in this school, as a tangible benefit of volunteering.
