National serviceman needs maid to carry his backpack
-
even my p3 DD i make her carry her own bag
i always tell her that she must responsible for her own stuff
i think army bag is not suppose to be carry by others but the soldier himself.
wearing a army no.4, you should know that you are responsible for something and have some pride
btw SAF will take appropriate action against serviceman who made maid carry backpack

I guess it boils down the to parents' attitude. It does not mean that having a maid will definitely lead to pampered kids. I have seen families without maids but the kids turn out equally pampered cos the parents or grandparents will do everything for them.Tell me about toughing our kids up. When i allow my kids at 4 years old to pack their school bags for childcare, i was labelled as cruel and my kids odd. DD came back one day and said teacher asked her why she doesn't have a maid to help her out.
I feel it is a chicken and egg thingy. Parents with maids please do not bash me. If kids see maid picking up after their parents, pick up the laundry, put dishes away etc.. I can't imagine how one can instill independency to them. i have a conversation before with a friend discussing about how many girls can't do housework now. My friend said she knows that and that is why she is getting the maid to train her DD to do housework. Ironic, right?
My kids still have to make their own beds, pack their own bags, put their soiled clothes in the laundry basket, clear their own stuff. DD is washing her own school shoes and fixing her own breakfast.
Anyway, I told my kids, the helper is here to help mummy and daddy. Not to wait on you hand and foot. Her role is to help in general household chores like mopping, vacuuming, ironing and preparing meals. Her job is not to pick up after you. If you do not put your dirty clothes in the laundry basket, you will end up with no clothes to wear. If you don't put away your toys and books they will end up in salvation army or the dustbin.
Ok back to that army personnel. This fella has no presence of mind. You done a uniform that marks you as a protector and you have your maid carry your backpack. Duh. That said, he is 1 individual bloke. Not a representative of the whole army nor his generation. -

DPM TCH, who is also d defence Minister said in a 2008 speech: ‘I think they (today’s NSmen) are less able to take knocks. They are more fragile.’
His view was dat they may be fitter but r less rugged than previous generations.
Spot on. -

I think the root cause are the parents! The kids just follow. We as parents should be mindful of our own actions. I am sure that the young man did not see anything wrong with getting his domestic helper to assist him as she must be doing everything else for him anyway. :lol:Just saw this on the news and was like :!:
What kind of young men are we developing in Singapore? We need to employ maids to accompany them to war???? :?

It's really terrible  something which older generation like MM is afraid to see. Is the maid employed to do housework or to babysit the 19 year old NS man ? Next thing will be maids going to Pulau Tekong to wash toilet and make the beds ?
I heard of maids going to NUS hostels to clean up the rooms & change bedsheets for the kids every weekend. -
aiyah, some people even had their undies ironed by the maids coz they feel the maids too free. I was lke :!: but I thik here r many who tink it’s normal.

I got no maid now, son going NS soon, better quickly employ one.

Some women get their maids to wash their undies...to them, it's as normal as washing a shirt but I can't do that. :!:
Can understand some employers do get their maids to do things like clean the wall of the toilet, rooms and iron bedsheets, t-shirts bcos they think maids are very free if not given work. Some maids not automatic like cleaning fans if not asked to. -
Would dis be a good caption for dis pix?
