Very different!!

Penang Hokkien Mee is equivalent to our hae mee or prawn mee. If you eat a good bowl of real Penang Hokkien Mee, can really tell a difference.

Their broth is a rich stock of prawns. :drool: And then, you top it off with either chendol or teh-ping.... wah lagi best!! :drool::drool:

Yup, penang hokkien mee is actually prawn noodle. That was really confusing when I first arrived in S’pore, haha!


A lot of prawn shells went into the stock. My friends asked how I managed to gather so much shells. Well, I only make this once or max, twice a year, so instead of throwing away the shells of the prawns I intend to cook, I will keep and freeze. I know it’s time to cook hokkien mee when I see a whole lot of prawn shells in my freezer. Haha!

yes.. they are the same.
The first time I went to Penang to try their hokkien mee, i thot it was like our Spore version.

Yeap this one i heard alot about it but haven't tried.

They have quite a good selection and the food is good.

But frankly speaking, i can't find really authentic penang food in singapore.
Somehow the food here is not as \"simple\" as the one in Penang.

Had penang buffet last evening at Copthrone King Hotel. The penang laksa was horrible. The chef added minced sardine fish to the gravy. The result is a strong fishy smell and there were bits of sardine all over. Totally disgusting to taste and look. The gravy is murky and not sour at all. Felt like puking after trying some. :sick:

My wife and kids love Penang food and have been craving for it ever since we came back from Penang. Anyone knows where to find good Penang food here? :?

There's a place at Novena Ville, Penang Road Cafe. They have good Penang food. I love their Penang laska. I bought my M'sian fren there to test and she also gives it thumbs up.


But the dessert, it's normal, I still miss the Malacca chendol :drool:

For drinks, try the 3 layered tea.

They are closed on Mon. Their lunch time, I can't remember is it 11.30am or 12pm to 2.30pm and for dinner I think it's either 5.30 or 6pm to 930pm or later.
