Some kids need pushing before they can excel. Some kids don't need. Some after much pushing still the same.:(

My son is one that needs a lot of pushing (though may not excel). Can't imagine if the teachers don't teach and leave everything to parents thinking that 3/4 class attend enrichment. I will die cos no time and no $$ to attend so many enrichments. If he can get into PH, at least it's only revision that I need to do. Not teach + revision.

Just to highlight to some parents. My neighbour's grandson in PH P1 is not doing well for his English. Thus, is required to stay back with teacher everyday during recess time. To me, at least it shows that the teacher (or the school) cares right from the beginning.

Oh.. . also heard that PH not as stressful as Rulang from a fren today. Unsure how true.

        Janet,

Told my son if he has done his best (already "strive for excellence" in our context and he doesn’t do well, I am ok. But if I see all silly mistakes, he will get it from me. Hahaha. . . .

          Hi Scary,
My daughter has remedial lessons for Chinese, Eng and math...teacher is very kind and understanding...thank goodness for her teacher  If she had been in PH, wonder if she would have such patient teachers.

              Hi Janet,

Your son's teachers quite ok right? Nowadays it's poor teachers poor students. Imagine besides remedial, still have to stay back during recess time. Many teachers bo bian cos their bonus is marked against the academic performance of the students.

I hope my son doesn't have to go for so many remedial in future + stay back during recess. 😞

              LOLMum,
Yes, P1 has remedial. Same neighbour's grandson has to go for remedial twice a week too. Heard it's the same for many other schools, e.g. Nan Hua.

ds's school has none and homework especially chinese is hardly given. guess they did most of the work in school. but remedial for chinese would really be much appreciated by this mum here.

he is doing 3 ccas weekly instead and if he has his ways, he will be doing 5 ccas.

Precisely...I was like, 'Huh  , only P1 and term 2.' Asked her FT and she understood my concerns...my daughter is very petite. So my heart really broke when FT said she needs remedial :!:
Apparently, my dear girl here doesn't give a hoot about giving quality work but always the FIRST to finish her worksheets...and also not able to read many words. So her FT said she wants to observe her in small group setting first.

My mum was so heartache when she heard about remedial and even wanted to bring her lunch. :heartbroken:

Homework is not brought home bcos chances are the PARENTS will be the ones doing them...so her Eng & Maths are done in school. My dear girl here doesn't give a hoot about producing quality work...her thrill is to finish asap and hand it up.
We were initially heartache about the remedial for all 3 subjects, but her FT is very patient and caring towards her...said this small group setting is to observe her progress first.
As for CCA, NO WAY...at least not for P1, no matter how many letters I get from school.

that's good if ft is patient and helpful. you will definitely see the benefits of remedial class. i always πŸ™ for patient and helpful teachers for my kids.

sometimes when we teach our kids ourselves, they just dont listen and with teacher, it is \"teacher is always right\".

mine doesnt read instructions and never check his work, so unlike the sister. even if helping words were given, he can still copied them wrongly. πŸ˜›

I'm very happy her FT is very patient with the class.

The prob with teaching own kids is they don't listen to parents regardless the number of times you repeat...but with teacher, just once or twice will do and that sticks in their heads.
My son always misses out certain words (comprehension) or else copy the wrong thing for Maths...so he is wrong RIGHT from beginning.
