      Hi,

Can someone assist me with the following P5 question : -

Alan, Benny, Clement and Danny has 105 marbles. Alan lost 3 marbles and Danny lost 1/2 of what he had. Benny’s sister gave Benny another 6 marbles. Clement’s aunt rewarded Clement by doubling what he had originally. In the end, the 4 boys had an equal number of marbles. How many more marbles than Danny did Alan at first ?

Start with the after situation :

            A […]
            B […]
            C […]
            D […]

Then add the clues to get to the starting situation

            A […][…][3]
            B […][6]
            C […]
            D […][…][…][…]

            A : 2U +3
            B : 2U -6
            C : U
            D : 4U

            9U -> 105
            U -> 12

Ans: Danny has 21 marbles more.

I read the question again, it should be how many more marbles than Alan did Danny have?

              Check:
              Before:
              Alan 27
              Benny 18
              Clement 12
              Danny 48

              After : each 24

                    Hi

Appreciate help to solve the problem sum below (P5):

40% of the animals on a farm were chickens and the rest were ducks. When another 104 chickens and ducks were bought, the number of chickens was increased by 20% and the number of ducks was increased by 30%.
(a)\tFind the number of chickens on the farm at first, and
(b)\tthe number of ducks on the farm after the increase.

                    Thank you.

                      Hi softcoach,

Initially, number of chickens to number of ducks
                      = 40% : 60%
                      = 20u : 30u >> total 50u

After 104 chickens and ducks were bought,
                      number of chickens increased by 20% >> 20u X 120% = 24u
                      number of ducks increased by 30% >> 30u x 130% = 39u

so after purchase of 104 chickens and ducks,
number of chickens to number of ducks
                      = 24u : 39u >> total 63u

                      so 63u - 50u = 104, 13u = 104, 1u = 8

                      a) Number of chickens on the farm, at first = 20u = 20 x 8 = 160
                      b) Number of ducks on the farm, after increase = 39u = 39 x 8 = 312

                      cheers.

Need help on this qn. Thanks.

The volume of water in bottle P was 3/5 of that in bottle Q. After 60ml of water was added to bottle P and 20ml was poured away from bottle Q, the amt of water in bottle P was 3/4 that in bottle Q.
What was the amt in each bottle at first?
