      Hi,

Wonder anyone can advise? My children are having weekly swimming lessons at 6pm (1hr lesson). 2 of my 3 children will feel very cold & shiver, lips will turn purpish in colour.

I gave them sambucol prior to the swimming class, and snacks & in between the lesson also gave hot Milo. But it doesn't help.

The coach is not available at other timing, does anyone has any advice on what to do or take?
      Hi there,

I can only assume your children have just started learning swimming?

My 5 years old son shivered also during swim class previously but it slowly went away as he build up his resistance. About 6 months later.

Hot drinks and towel definitely help in the interim. Encourage them and slowly they should be alright.

Quite normal, no need for undue worries. 😎

        Hi Rydy,

Yes my kids just started to learn swimming. Sometimes it's so cold that they can't follow the instructions though they enjoy the lesson very much.

I also hope they will build up their resistance soon! Thanks!

          Hi,

My son also shivers and lips turn purple during his swimming at 4pm too.

His coach suggested wearing 2 pieces of swim wear and giving him goat's milk to heat up the body.

He is wearing thermal swim wear and as we happen to have an extra suit so we put on two for him.

          Helps abit....

            OK i3mum,

My case, the swim coach will give out either Meiji hello panda biscuit or Oreo cookie after every swim lesson.

I encouraged my son that if he like to have the snacks, he should try to stay throughout the lesson.

No need to force, just encourage will do.
The coach will give it to him anyway if he did not complete the class because he was too cold...this went on for several weeks, he even protested to quit! πŸ˜‰

Slowly he got used to it. So your children will be fine.

            Cheer up! πŸ˜„

              Hi Rydy,

My kids' swim coach also gave them tibits after the lesson! Besides the coach really know how to make his way to let the kids do certain things which my kids didn't dare to when we asked them.

Yes, I will continue to encourage them πŸ™‚

                i3mum,

Just curious. Are you using the Liferacer thermal suit ?

The material for the body is thicker than normal swimsuit, it really does keep my boy warm. I have seen those long sleeves type made of thin material, I don't think those will work.

If your kids are wearing Liferacer and still feel cold, I think you should just move them to early afternoon when the sun is hot. 6pm is too late.

                  Hi tamarind,

No I m not using the thermal suit. Mine is normal thin material. I was thought the thermal ones seem quite \"obstructive\" for certain strokes?
Maybe I will get one & try it out!

                  Thanks!

                    i3mum,

The Liferacer thermal swim suit is body hugging, it is not obstructive πŸ˜„

Even in heated pools babies can get cold quite quickly, so the soft neoprene fabric that fits snugly around baby’s body creates a warm, loving hug. It makes them feel safe and secure, and most importantly, keeps them warm. It’s easier for parents too as the fabric ensures you keep a firm grip on your baby.
