I found out something really shocking today. Dd told me her FT does not mark their compositions! She will let the kids mark one another's work.

She had given 4 compos, 2 did at home and 2 in school. Till now, i've not seen marked ones returned so I asked my dd. She said they had only marked the first set some time back in class. FT collected them but we've yet to see them to know whether she had remarked.

She has the habit of getting the class to mark everything but I can close one eye for work sheets and activity books but compositions too??

If the FT is reading this, I hope she'll put in some effort to at least acknowledge or read their work. The kids had put in time and effort to write.

Sorry....cannot ding ding ding here.
This is ridiculous :!:
Hi Parents,

I called up school to enquire the dates for SA1...now that May 9 is a public holiday.
Someone in general office told me the school premise may be used for some election/polling venue on May 6 (Friday)...and that school may possibly end at 12pm. Anyway, I'm waiting for the circular to be issued as confirmation.

It would be wonderful if the school can be used for Polling Day, then I wouldn't have to go to Greenwich to vote.

CONFIRMED - Pei Hwa is a Polling Station.
So P1 and P2 .. no school :celebrate:
One more day to prepare for exam.

So that means no need to go to Greenwich Sec for Holland-Bukit Timah ?
Depends on where you are staying .. Greenwich Sec is the Nomination Centre.

The past 2 days we revised CL vocabulary. He has shown more cooperation this round. Hopefully these are signs he is maturing.

Good for you, Jennifer! Maybe there are less bullying or disciplinary issues in a better class so he is also able to learn better on the whole?

I believe so. The teachers are all ON type too.

She had given 4 compos

The first piece came back with her short comments but not graded. She told them to rewrite the FIRST piece, though there are minimal mistakes. This morning, the class marked their second piece. It will be a miracle if all 4 pieces can be returned before next Wed, marked and graded.

For the correction of composition by pupil each other only, some points of view maybe differ...We may refer to the essay '谈谈小学生习作批改', but it is talking about chinese compo,
another,
Anyway, in what form to make correction is not important, the most attention is the real teaching quality.

Lizhi,

I understand your standpoint very well. Thanks for your sharing. I had intended to also mention that if she had done it at the beginning of this term, I would think that it would still be fine because there might be something for them to learn from their compo-correcting experience in good time. I also agree that reading and commenting on others’ compositions help in opening up more ideas. However, FT’s directions were unclear and I believe her objectives were to get them to premark the grammar, spelling and punctuation errors only, not to make any comments or to gain ideas. I somehow can’t help it, but have this feeling that she is making use of their strengths in English to conduct this compo-correcting exercise. I doubt any teacher will attempt to do that for a weaker class. I relented, it’s my over-reaction saying that this practice was shocking but I am concerned about whether she had done it at the right time, and whether she had made herself clear that it was meant to be a constructive exercise?

I could be the last person to be concerned because I can still guide my own dd but I felt sorry for those who really needed more reassurances from the teacher. Wouldn’t it be to late for any of them to catch up at the last minute?

Yes

Retrieved our polling card this morning  The address is based on 1.1.2011, not the latest lodged. We hv to go to Fajar Sec Sch to do the voting.
