Chinese Comprehension - Lifting from passage?

Oh dear. What you said make sense too. But answer sheets of different papers/books have different kinds of answer format for these 2 questions. Oh dear.

my DS’ CL / HCL teacher was one of three involved with the syllabus and exam format. another is the P of NYPS (refer to texbook cover, her name is there I think)


in her words : it is 3 adults versus 1 young kid (in terms of thinking of how to test the kids at CL/HCL exams)

now, for the exams/compre : very few questions give opportunity to do direct lifting from the passages. most questions will be inference type, u have to know the overall theme, know how to summarise certain idea or reasons, know / understand what was NOT said in the passage, read between the lines (for the really tough question)…this is expected at P6

So does that mean that they have the same expectations of chinese and english? I thought chinese was a second language so the expectations are lower? (they can ‘lift’ the answer and so on?)

my son is in P2, his English teacher penalise him by giving zero marks for lifting as he copied the whole sentence from the passage (but the answer to the question is very similar to what was written in the passage).


However, he told me his Chinese teacher ask them to lift the answer from the passage. So he use the same theory to do his English comprehension and he got zero for lifting. So I am also very confuse to lift or not to lift and what if the answer is very straight forward and similar to the passage?

Yes, this is a 2 marks Question and I was :? why my DD1 did not even get any marks for this Question :sad: .....Written a small note to CL T & also e-mailed her but no reply.... :roll: ....

I was a bit :? too as DD1 said that CL T did mention CANNOT use \"direct speech\" answer...Sigh, with the SA1 paper on Thursday, I do hope the CL T replied my queires :imdrowning:

The answer is just incomplete but it is not wrong.
