All About Child Immunisation

Hi,Mummies, Just to share,recently,I brought my girl (3 years plus) for her pneummocal vaccaination..been putting off for years as I wonder if it is really necessary,yet whenever she fell sick,there is this niggling doubt that it could be more serious than the common cold/flu... :roll: Sigh,in the end,finally decided to get a peace of mind and scheduled for her jab at the local polyclinic... As per normal,the nurse gave me a list which listed all the side effects,which included swelling of the injection area and loss of appetite....Few hours after the injection,my ger complained of sharp pain around the injection site,which was by then an angry red bump and the surrounding area was sensitive to touch...I had to apply cold compress for two days before the swelling went down.. :shock:

Needless to say,her appetite was also greatly affected...
anyway,just to let mummies be more aware of the side effects ...
Wonder if any mum experience this too?

My DS (07 baby) also just had this jab recently.

He subsequently complained of intense leg pain (targeted jab area), so much so that he was limping. But it was only for a day. Think he didn't have much of an appetite too.

We were prepared for it cuz our PD did warn us that the new jab would be VERY painful. It was quite a pitiful sight watching him suffer ... but he took it quite well.

My toddler daughter has a very obvious lymph gland (not sure if that’s the term) after one of her jab. According to pediatrician, it could be caused by her BCG. She has asked us to monitor her gland --if it grows bigger or move to another location. If serious, she might need to go an op to remove it.


Anyone has such experience with their children?

Hi, heard from one of my friend that in February 2010 there's a new vaccine to prevent pneumococcal disease in children named Prevnar 13. It protects against more strains of pneumococcal bacteria than the previous vaccine, Prevnar 7. This protection is important because the Prevnar 7 doesn’t protect against certain strains of bacteria that have become more common in recent years. So any mummies can advise whether should i bring my DD / DS for a booster Prevnar 13 jab as they've both taken the Prevnar 7 previously?

i would think, dun rush for ths new jab yet. wait for more feedback from PD & parents. usually, new jab may have unknown side effect, so better for them to stabilise first. maybe a year or so. According to MOH, the current jab we took for our child protect them from the strain that affect kids most, so, i would feel, eventhough it did not cover all strains, but good enough. unless MOH statistics show that new strain is infecting children on a increasing level, then they will let parents know to take up the jab as optional first then make it compulsary if the risk is too high

Can i Check if the BCG AND Hep B 1st dose is given at birth hospital the 1st 2 days, can we take up the vaccination package from polyclinic for the remaining jabs?

Or to take up the immunisation package from polyclinic, we must bring the BB to polyclinic for his/her very 1st 2 jabs when born?

u can takje ur subsequent jabs in polyclinic of ur choice, jst bring ur child to the polyclinic for the subsequent jabs, i did that too as the polyclinic is nearer to my home than the PD/hospital where they were born.

But the waiting time is hell long! Today's registration, my number was 200 away! :yikes:

Can you believe it! Just to register that we are there.. And the irony is, we are on appointment
basis! :frustrated:

After about 70 ppl passed the queue number when i realized the registration area is getting
more packed with sick people and there i was STILL waiting with baby.. :rant: So i got up,
went up to a counter with the lady who was just done gossiping with another beside her..
asked her point blank, \"Do i really hafta wait for 200 people to go for my scheduled appt?\"

Apparently, another lady in civilian clothing perhaps a manager or some sort took my queue
number, went to another vacant counter and requested to sign me in immediately.. As the
appt time has beyond passed (due to such a looonnng wait) i had to wait some more like
another half hour. But at least i was amongst other parents and babies as well who were
there for immunisation and not a room packed with patients. Lucky today no follow up with
doctor's appt. :roll: Or else gotta wait another hour! :faint: After bb jab, wait another hour
