Had a gathering for all the mothers in my family on Mother's Day, also to have a small celebration for my 2 kiddos' impending birthdays. Decided to go Indian and cooked up the following.

Can tell you what went into the dish but cannot tell you the actual amount cos it is all based on taste and the 'quality' of the ingredients.
          But just as a guide,
1 portion of chilli powder to 1 portion of coriander powder (for this round, I had to increase the portion of coriander powder as I was not using freshly ground ones so not as fragrant)
red onions (1 large red onion to 3-4 crabs)
tomatoes (1 large tomato to 2 crabs)
          curry leaves

heat some oil and fry the onions till they caramalise or turn slightly brown.
Mix the chilli and coriander powder with some water until it becomes a paste.
Add the paste to the onions and fry till fragrant
Add tomatoes and crabs and let it simmer until cooked
Throw in a fistful of curry leaves and add salt to taste

Garnish with fresh parsley when serving.

For the chilli powder, so far, when I cook this dish I usually use about 1 heaping tbsp to 3-4 crabs depending on how spicy I want it to be.

Not difficult lah. Just increase qty for everything. In fact I find it more difficult to cook for 2. And I have a wonderful helper who washed up while I dice n slice n fry.

I love planning makan gatherings. Before kids, I will even do table settings with fresh flowers and candles and stuff. Now forget about presentation. Taste good, enough oredi.

BTW, can I ask all the ‘gao shou’ chefs here, if it’s possible to buy non spicy curry powder? the kind where u have to add your own chilli powder? would like to use it to season food and introduce the taste to the kids, but not sure where to find? TIAs!!

                        Thanks Augmum and Mrs Bongz.

A lot of the stuff were prepared the day before, even the fish curry, the gravy with the veg was cooked the night before and the fish added only the next morning.

Mrs Bongz, you can get the curry powder from NTUC, they do sell. I bought a pack not too long ago when I ran out of the one my mum made. Not too bad. I like to use it to season fish and chicken wings. You can introduce Jap curry to your kids first, these are usually very mild and kids tend to like them.
