Can really feel the relaxed air in this KSP community ..

try Cold Stone at Ion. You can have a choice of your fav toppings.

DD just called to share her English marks... can't help feeling disappointed even though it's a marked improvement from her mock exams. Mock exams- 66%. SA1 - 75.6%.

Am still sore with the lack of teaching of compo as that really pulled her marks down.

I am still thankful but cannot help feeling sad as I recall the beautiful past marks from P1 to 4... different reality now...
I can empathize with you. Language is really tough. Subjects like Maths and Science can get good grades with a few months of intensive effort. For languages, it has to start from young with the right environment.

              Hi Peony

For P5/P6, marks above 75 is already an \"A\". Just need to put more effort on the compo.

In fact, EL is the most difficult subject to score A/A* during the PSLE.

So don't worry and I think by P6 she sure can improve further lah.

                Peony,

If it's any consolation to you, son got 78.8% for P5 SA1, further pulled down by a poor showing of CA1. But he did much better for PSLE EL, maybe yr DD's sch std is the high type?

cimman, er.. actually she had a good start from young. (100% in P1, 90 plus in P2 and high 80s for P 3 &4)

But this is the school's strategy to scare parents and P5 so that more can get A* at PSLE. I know coz I asked the teacher when my DD found her test papers more difficult than the PSLE practise papers.

Yup... but still has a long way for compo.. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, I do need to change my mindset. Thanks Brenda.

                        Peony,

To be fair to your gal, you should not look at the raw score of the subject, but rather compare it with the school cohort mean and standard deviation. If the paper is tough, most kids will find it difficult and the mean will decrease. In this case, by looking at your gal’s in comparison with the rest of the kids taking the same paper, you will have a better feel of where she stand. If mean is at 65 and standard deviation is 5, your gal’s 75% is already considered very good as it is way beyond the mean+standard deviation of the cohort.

I think by P5, parents need to change their mindset of just reviewing raw score. With different levels of difficulty of subject paper, comparing against mean and standard deviation is a better gauge of the child’s standard in that subject.
