Preparing kids for P5 in 2011

Seriously at P1?
Already I feel so sad that my P5 needs to work on her weaknesses.
Heartache these few days. Took 2 weeks break coz of exams and she has forgotten all she learnt regarding compo.
Thank God at P5, all the "bands" not mentioned and if dun look at numbers, report book still look respectable⦠-

Hi Brenda,
Hi Janet
I was in Popular yesterday and see Math Assessment Book of using Heuristics is also availale for P1 and the answer key are all in model style.
Sorry to interrupt
- can remember the title of the book? I am a bit :nailbite: :scared: now after reading so many comments about P1 Maths and the term \"Heuristics\"
. DD2 will be P1 next year and is slower in learning compares with DD1 so I just hope to learn a bit more first before teaching her maybe last quarter of this year

Yes. I am also very surprise as we don't have to do all these few years ago until P4. -

Hi Brenda,
Hi Janetjanet_lee88:
It's really tough to be a child now. Met my P1 daughter's teacher during Parent-Teacher meeting yesterday. She told me my gal is weak...needs to work hard for the rest of the year. Also needs to brush up her reading and improve on Math. I know this June won't be fun but we definitely need to recharge our batteries BADLY.
ε ζ²Ή everyone !!!

Thanks for the info.
Went through daughter's Maths review paper...she needs to improve in 'Subtraction up to 20'. For eg in MCQ section, she was supposed to choose one of the options which gives the answer to the question 20-5.
For the 4 options, students are supposed to work out and write answer beside. My dear friend here worked out the answers mentally...naturally she would get the answer wrong. Teacher told me the girls didn't want to 'dirty' the question paper by writing anything on it.
Rather long-winded...sorry  -

Son's overall results in report book not that respectable...Eng & Chinese are slightly below the P5 standard average...already got him a 1-to-1 tutor for Maths...so crossing my fingers he will improve. It will be a tough ride for the next 6 months but I am positive (have to be :xedfingers: ) he will improve.Seriously at P1?

Told son he needs to be independent AND disciplined as I need to focus on his neglected sister. -

Is ok. I think she is still young (Nov child right ? ) and she will be catching up once you explain to her.
Is her school subscribe to lead program? if yes, can use this holiday to revise through those on line lesson. -

Her teacher doesn't feel that year-end kids should be slower. But will work on her concepts this June.

Janet, am not sure if this is the heuristic book Brenda is recommending.. but I do think it may help your P1 DD... http://www.fan-learning.com.sg/publications.php?sid=a7b0aec420066d7b6e250736c2b386bf
