Maybe your fren can try to find another school which is more accepting to the kid's condition. Alternatively, she should contact the P and MOE to seek for a solution (other than home-school) for the kid. Since MOE has made primary education as compulsory, they have the duty to help the kid find a suitable school. If no reply, seek help from MP.

Hi Pen88n and all, if you know of such primary school kindly pm me. Thanks.

        Otah:
        A friend's case is such:

Her P5 kid has been complained by teachers as no discipline since P1,.. can't sit still, rude to teachers,... till recently he fighted with his teacher. The P referred him to see psychologist and after that they stopped him from attending school. No medication is needed so far. The child keep insisting that the teacher need to apologise to him and refuse to stop school. Is it correct for them to stop him from attending school. It has been two months and he has been fine at home with the help of his little sister to submit homework for him but My friend is afriad that this may affect his PSLE preparation if continue. Should my friend ask for transfer him to another school and what is their chance of success? Or should my friend co-operate and wait till the current school is willing to take her child back?
You mean the P5 boy fought with his teacher and after that keep insisting that the teacher need to apologise to him? That's quite shocking and I won't blame the school for suspending him, especially when other pupils are also feeling threatened by his behavior. I may be wrong but it didn't seem that an autuistic child will insist that the teacher need to apologise to him.

I hope I don't offend you or your friend, but I think the school is being kind in not suspending him or making a police report. I think the parents should get their priority right and correcting his behavior should take precedence over PSLE preparation. If he continues this way, he will most definitely get into serious trouble in the not too distant future. He definitely need help in managing his anger and controlling his violent behavior. It won't be long before he reach his teens and by then, it'll be even more difficult to help him.

Until he change his tendencies of fighting or being rude to the teachers, it's going to be difficult for MOE or any school to help. Teachers and the other pupils have a right not to live in fear of him beating them up, or threatening them. If he is unable to show any modicum of respect for his teachers, he won't be able to learn from them.

          Thanks for your comment, rosemummy.

The child has been diagnosed with mild autisim is the fact and definitely needs help. Any suggestions as to where he could seek help would be appreciated. He has been suspended from school for more than 2 mths. What do you think should be the next step other than siting at home. Will that make him worst?

If he had already been diagnosed, then 1 option would be to transfer him to a special school for children with autism. Your friend may want to try Pathlight or St Andrew's Autism School. The special schools should be better equipped to handle such children.

yes, two months seem so so long and torturing especially to my fren. All avernue suggested has been done and now till waiting cos doctor must certify him well first. But when I saw the child few days back he looks normal wah... can talk to, can watch tv can play comp... Seeing my fren :imdrowning: only feel like 😢 and helpless at this stage.

When a child is on his own, most likely he'll be normal. But in a class, you'll never know how he behaves to his teachers and classmates. Most important is to get the details from all his teachers and some of his classmates.

Thanks sall for the advice. To ensure he could catch up with his school syllabus, fren has to send him to the neighbourhood RC tuition group for all his subjects. That incurr more cost to this low income family. The child is Ok leh in his tuition group. But I find this does not make sense. Fren has seek help from the MP to write to MOE to investigate and review the case. Hopefully the child could get back to his school soon.

This is the link for pathlight -> http://pathlight.org.sg

You could help your friend to bring them to Pathlight to help their son

They have subsidies as well so it would be helpful to your fren?
                  =====
                  Subsidies
No child if deemed suitable for Pathlight will be deprived of an education because he cannot afford it.

In addition, Pathlight works with key partners such as The MILK Fund to provide additional subsidies for books, uniforms, transport and meals.

Any family who requires financial assistance should contact Student Affairs at tel: 6459 9951 or email [email protected].

                        Hi

From what I am aware, a successful transfer to another school depends on a vacancy at that particular school that you would like to be transferred to, so most if not all schools would have a wait list that you can put your name down on. Depending on each particular school, there may be an entrance test that the wait list child has to sit for, once a vacancy is available. Once there is a vacancy, whether getting a place is dependent on the results of the entrance test or the past results of the child would depend on each school.

For those that have moved to a new address, there is the STEPS prog which MOE conducts annually, but you would not have a choice of the school. Allocation will be based on the vacancy at each school near your new address, http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/steps/. Details will be provided through every school each year.
