The child has been diagnosed with mild autisim is the fact and definitely needs help. Any suggestions as to where he could seek help would be appreciated. He has been suspended from school for more than 2 mths. What do you think should be the next step other than siting at home. Will that make him worst?

If he had already been diagnosed, then 1 option would be to transfer him to a special school for children with autism. Your friend may want to try Pathlight or St Andrew's Autism School. The special schools should be better equipped to handle such children.

yes, two months seem so so long and torturing especially to my fren. All avernue suggested has been done and now till waiting cos doctor must certify him well first. But when I saw the child few days back he looks normal wah... can talk to, can watch tv can play comp... Seeing my fren :imdrowning: only feel like and helpless at this stage.

Thanks sall for the advice. To ensure he could catch up with his school syllabus, fren has to send him to the neighbourhood RC tuition group for all his subjects. That incurr more cost to this low income family. The child is Ok leh in his tuition group. But I find this does not make sense. Fren has seek help from the MP to write to MOE to investigate and review the case. Hopefully the child could get back to his school soon.

From what I am aware, a successful transfer to another school depends on a vacancy at that particular school that you would like to be transferred to, so most if not all schools would have a wait list that you can put your name down on. Depending on each particular school, there may be an entrance test that the wait list child has to sit for, once a vacancy is available. Once there is a vacancy, whether getting a place is dependent on the results of the entrance test or the past results of the child would depend on each school.

For those that have moved to a new address, there is the STEPS prog which MOE conducts annually, but you would not have a choice of the school. Allocation will be based on the vacancy at each school near your new address, http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/steps/. Details will be provided through every school each year.

There has to be vacancies in the school before it will accept a transfer. The school may make exceptions if the child is exceptionally gifted academically or in sports. The best time to make a transfer is at the end of P3 when students enter GEP and about 300-500 spaces become available.
