      Moomoo138,

I would strongly discourage the 1 month break to support your DS for PSLE, as I think if it is near PSLE, it will end up stressing both you and DS more. You will most probably \"dat boleh tahan\" his \"bo-chap\" attitude :x and try to force more work; he will resist more and spend more energy on being defiant than on concentrating on his impending PSLE :stupid: . Not advisable at all unless you are gonna spend the 1 month purely supporting his needs of having someone around to take care of food and anything else but not schoolwork / PSLE revision.

Either you take a much longer break (preferably start before Jun holiday or even earlier if possible) to give ample time to slowly build up some revision schedule / programme, or you just let it run as it is. That's just my humble opinion.

Have PM you. Check Inbox

I don’t know much about Catholic High so I won’t compare.

Religion in SJI doesn’t play a big part at all compared to other schools such as ACS and St Andrew’s. Your son doesn’t even have to take part in morning mass although he can choose to go. Besides more than 2/3 of the cohort are non-Catholic, including me.

SJI is quite a fun community. I would say the Peer Support Programme is worth going to SJI for. The orientation, is much different from other schools. During the orientation camp in Sec 1 it’ll be an awesome experience!

Also most of the teachers are very approachable and nice, although they have very different styles of teaching they are not unreasonable after you get to know them after some time.

        EDIT:

If you’re afraid that your son wouldn’t have the chance to shine, in SJI, there’s quite a good chance that your son will take up a leadership position. Most likely if he works hard in his CCA he can become a Peer Support Leader nominated by his CCA teacher. In Uniform Groups (NPCC, NCC especially) if he actively takes part in the activities he’ll probably get one of the top leadership positions.

Hi RaikouAura, thanks for sharing your view... hopefully my DS is able to get in and have such an enjoyable time and a marvellous experience like yours. BTW, would you be able to notify (PM) me when the date for your school open house is out? Many thanks... 😄

Hi - can anybody share their experience of DSA for Science Research Programme for Anderson.

Also - Some parents have mentioned SJI DSA - does SJI have DSA for academics - other than sports and military band?

              Thanks

                Hi vidhyalog,

SJI does not have DSA for academics. I was looking out for it in their website. There’s only sports n military band and the application has closed.

                regards

I read with interest in SJI - does the community of non catholics referring to Christians, Buddists and all other religion ?

My ds is currently in SJI, and we are non-catholics. Initialy, I was apprehensive about sending him there, but after getting feedbacks from other KSP parents, I'm glad I did. Not only is ds a more confident person (he was very timid in pr sch), he is also a class comm member and doing very well in his CCA. As an independent sch, SJI offers many enrichment progs, such as IEP, oral & comm etc, and all these are carried out during curriculum time. As ds is also in the science talent program, he gets to participate in activities at the science centre, as part of his IEP, carried out every Wednesday, and also maths olympiad training. As a whole, I feel that the school is doing a great job in providing a holistic education for the boys.

Their open house will be held next week, Saturday, 16 July 2011, from
                    9am to 1pm. 😄

Thanks for sharing junrahmat ! This is great to hear about, your happy with the overall well being of your ds, and you are proud of him and the school . Do you know whether there is another OH for SJI maybe end of the year ? Next sat timing clash with one other activity, and personally I think I like to bring mine to check on the sch.

I think their open house is only once a year. Otherwise you can try checking the school website, its pretty comprehensive
