first of all, technology can always be bypass. nothing is foolproof in the world.

in IT world, or dealing with users on IT, its always best to EDUCATE them. so education is still the best, those blocking software only serve as a temp measures.

how to talk to them depends on how old they are. preferably to talk to them when they are around 9yo or so. if they are sensible earlier then can talk earlier. no hard and fast rule.

For me, although my kids are still young, like oldest being 3yo, i intend to and had already planned to install those blocking programs for them. placing in the living room is not possible…maybe in the early stages, but once they complain, too noisy cannot do project, or study, then gt to move to their rooms. so no use.

install, use block, educate, is all u need. no need to worry too much.

Explain to your kids what those websites are and why they are not right for them.

It’s difficult to stop internet usage in this age.
I also tell my kids the double meaning of some words eg. mostly cat-related so that when they are using the search engine, they will not click on the wrong websites.

Agree. Nowadays, most students use laptop instead of desktop. So, 'placing the PC' in the living room is no longer a relevant solution.

For primary sch children this works well. but for teens they may learn to hack the admin account when they could not get into certain gaming website which are blocked. This experienced by one of my fren. In this aspect, it seems that the children learn to be hackers.

there are many filtering software that are free and paid.

                    google and u find them.

education is stil the best and the most difficult to achieve.

whether ur kid will learn to be hacker anot, dun worry. as long as u teach them the correct thing and educate them, nothing to worry about.

Education is still the best... Shouting will just make them more rebellious than ever. Would you like ur parents to nicely talk and explain to u or would u rather have them shout at you? No good for health. And to addon, it's nt just the children learn to be hackers. I've heard about cases when parents leave their admin account on and their children go change settings. After that the child gets blamed. So if u leave the house door open, and a thief comes in, it's nt ur fault? Think again. If u dun wan ur security to be compromised then be secure. Children these days are smarter than ever. And I'm one of them 🙂 found out my dads computers password 5 times. Used mum's netbook when banned from my own. Just some examples of my generation thinking out of the box. 🙂
