Is it common to change teachers half yearly or just the luck? School re-open, change 2 teachers. Reason, because the previous 2 teachers left the school. :?
Hi daisyt,
I think it's common in many schools. In both my children's school, they often had relief teachers (just completed A levels), trainee teachers and teachers on contract who come & go. Very disrupting and the teachers' quality and commitment are questionable. One of the teacher, a perm, would shout and asked the student to get out of the class when politely requested to explain a concept. Some teachers are hiding behind a brand-name school and think they can get away with bad attitudes. I'm beginning to believe that the good performance of the students is the result of parents who engaged external experts' help for their children! -
Fairy:
Hi Fairy. Which school was your children in? I think to be fair, we have to acknowledge good teachers too. For example, there are teachers in RV who offer to drive student home (they stay around same area) after H3 lesson (late in the afternoon). There are teachers offering to stay in library (library closing time will be extended after mid year exams until A level) to answer questions and to help students during this period. There are teachers who are so concern that he/she will drop a note in students facebook even during school holiday.daisyt:

My children are both at IP schools, not RV though. It's good that RV has caring teachers. Maybe my children's schools also have. Just their luck they kept having the bochap ones. One thing's for sure, if my children have such experiences with their teachers, I will not hesitate to write to the school's principal to commend on the teachers' good work.
I will not feedback on any 'bad' teachers though, least they got 'marked'. -
Hi Fairy, 节哀顺变, haha. I would say something is wrong with MOE. The system is not attracting good & enough teachers, especially local teachers. So now starting import FT teachers too lor.

The system is so stressful that even good teachers cannot tahan and they quit. MOE tried to attract by increasing pay and bonus. But by grading teachers and giving them bonus based on their grades, it stresses the teachers more and sends more teachers packing and leaving.
Seems like RV has a lot of teachers who are ex- RV students. Wonder if it is the ex-students who request to teach in RV or the P who request for ex-students. :scratchhead: -

Teachers have choice to choose the school that they prefer. According to one of my friend, he got every time he requested. many ex-RVian requested to teach there obviously.daisyt:

Hi Weihan, in the past, if teachers want to choose a school, they have to approach the principal of that sch. If the principal agrees to take him/her, then he’ll write to MOE. If the principal of the current sch that the teacher is still teaching in, refuses to let him/her transfer, then the teacher will have to stay put in the school. ( this is for transfer of sch) For new NIE graduates, then they can approach the principal before the posting results. It should be about the same now. But I don’t think teachers have so much freedom to choose what school they want to teach, otherwise all those not-so -good schools will have a shortage of teachers.

Yah...you are more accurate. I make it sound too simple. My friend has a Ph.D....obviously he sounds like he can transfer very easily....I didn't ask him further about the detail of transfering school.
