a)\tMaths

if a child is weak in P1 Mathematics, the primary school Maths teacher can identify these pupils. Try to form small groups and keep it small - so that can pay sufficient attention to each weak student.

form about maximum 4 to 6 pupils per group, so as to help these pupils quickly ‘buck up’ / catch up, understand basic, fundamental key concepts.

at lower primary level, the name given for these small group formation is called ‘Learning Support Maths’ (LSP – Maths).

if the Mathematics HOD (Head of Department) for that school happen to have teachers in her department who are Montessori trained, then the school will allow the usage of Montessori Mathematics training material, to teach, guide and coach these pupils in LSP, Maths. Help them quickly move up the ladder, catch up so that they don’t get left behind / fall behind, as the subject advanced in complexity the following next Term.

however, in the event that none of her teachers are Montessori trained, then the school will fall back on traditional methods devised & taught, to help these pupils buck up.

thus ‘Montessori Maths’ bears importance, in the early, key foundational kindergarten years - help a child acquire good foundation in Maths.

b)\t English

for whatever reasons, if a child is unable to read out a sentence like this (for example), ‘a fat cat sat on a mat’, likewise, the primary school teacher will identify such pupils out. Again – form small groups maximum 6 per group, help them catch up.

the name given for these small group formation is called ‘Learning Support English (LSP – English).

if the English HOD happen to have teachers in her department who are Montessori trained, then the school can use Montessori Phonics training material - to teach, guide and coach these pupils who need help in LSP, English.

if not, fall back on traditional methods devised.

at Upper primary level, they don’t call it LSP anymore.
They name it ‘remedial class’, and the class tend to be big.

parents keen to send kids for Montessori Phonics enrichment at community centres (cc) - can consider tr Doris Hui. She's not bad. She teach at various cc eg: Bishan North cc, Marine Parade cc, etc.


if you are a PA (People's Association) passion card holder, costs around $130 per Term, not per month. Very reasonable !

I am considering Newton Kindy for my son next yr K1. I am happy with his current kindy, however we are moving late this year, hence thinking of changing his kindy too.


Anyone has feedback on the teachers? Does K1/2 has homework etc etc?
How is the K1/2 curriculum? Thanks!

if there is any ex Newton parents whose child never go for any enrichment at all, but just rely solely on our school curriculum alone, and are willing to come forward to share, that would be best!

I am keen to find out too! My elder 2 gals attended my son's current kindy too. This kindy has taught my gals well. My #1 is in pri 2 and she is doing very well in Primary school, no enrichment classes (except phonics 4-5yo). My #2 is going P1 next year, she is doing pretty well in Kindy too, no enrichment (except phonics 4-5yo). If kids are weak in reading, kindy will give FOC reading class (outside class hr) every week to help with kids' reading skill.

Hence I am in dilemma if to w/d my son n try for Newton.

Would appreciate if you could share on the difference between BRMCK and Newton? Child in N1 in another childcare centre - too international and looking for a place where she learns christian values and excellent language skills.
