my ds is with HPPS now , & we live in CCK ( < 500m from DLS ).My ds will leave home by 620 am and heading to school by school's van . to us and him, the traveling time is manageable .

620am is reasonable time if taking school bus.
Hubby leaves home by 645am to send daughter to school in ToaPayoh (bcos we refuse to give up a place under Phase 2A).

I know Bukit Timah Primary has SNOs for 3 of the above (bold) you mentioned. I am not sure the degree of support, you may want to speak to them. I know of a gifted mildly autistic boy currently in Henry Park Primary and loving it.

the admin manager of RGPS confirmed in writing - there is no open house in RGPS.

however, curious parents who wish to visit the school premises can do so on P1 Orientation day - around 18 Nov 2011. You may go website, confirm this date and time set inside the school events calendar.

orientation talk is held in the huge school hall.

Parents can attend the talk. Feel the heart beat of the school, as well as find out what are the expectations of P1 curriculum. Aso who are the buddies paired up with your chiid at recess time to buy food, during initial first few days.

the talk in November is for P1 orientation. At the same time, you can seize the chance to visit the school premises, like dance room, music room, band room, Arts & Craft room, different classrooms, for different level.

if you wish to hear the detailed breakdown P1 curriculum, subject by subject, then got to wait until January 2012. The curriculum talk is very detailed, given by different subject HOD. This talk is given only once a year - held at beginning of the year, first few weeks. If you miss it, got to wait next round, ie. the next year. May go website, check school calendar which is the day in January for such talk.

parents whose daughters are due for enrolment P1 2013 / 2014 may also come and attend the talk…so long as the hall has got space big enough to accomodate all.

for this yr, the detailed P1 curriculum talk was held on 22 January (Saturday morning) 9 am, inside the big hall. (refer calendar)

next yr 2012 - keep an alert lookout. Check calendar online. Do not miss out the P1 curriculum talk - held once a year only, at beginning of year. It is very useful! After attending, you'll know what are the requirements, then you know how to guide yr daughter to get ready, for P1 2014.

after the briefing, there is also Q&A. many Daddies will ask about Maths, while Mommies will ask about Languages. You can learn a lot, from the Q&A.

for Maths - hv you also downloaded Dr Yeap Ban Har Maths slides on Bar modeling Maths concepts, starting P1 Term 4 ? It is very useful! note: only the first qn is P1. The rest are meant for higher level. You may download his powerpoint slides on page 95 of this thread, keep for reference later:-

during the Q&A, Daddies often ask questions about Maths. Perhaps because most Daddies are engineers, or professionals working in Science related fields.

i learnt something during Q&A. RGPS Maths teachers very particular about pupils - showing the detailed step by step workings. They are more interested & concerned in pupils showing detailed workings, then just giving the final answer.

what happened was … many RGPS students during kindergarten days attend abacus classes. So they are well trained in Maths mental calculation. They are very fast and swift, with hands. Whether it’s + - x /, at the slight shake & movement of their hand knuckles, pop comes the answer!

some of them simply write down the final answer - without showing any step by step detailed workings at all, during P1 Maths Tests paper. So teacher mark them zero.

one Daddy was upset. Question the Maths Teacher why mark his daughter zero - when her final answer was actually correct ? Maths teacher said they want to see the step by step workings shown, see if the pupil has shown any understanding in the Maths concepts taught in class. They want to see the step by step, logical reasoning, processing skills in a pupil.

so please train and tell yr daughter now, to show detailed step by step workings for Maths. Moving hand knuckle is just to verify answer - see whether workings tie to the final answer.
