Criteria for a Good Student Care Service (BASC)
-
i am currently working in a Before & after sch care and will take note of all the feedbacks to work on our centre.
4 things that we will strife to achieve, over the short next 3 months
1) address the problem of inexperience/uncapable teachers
2) improve teacher-student relationship - (less tantrum)
3) update our curriculum to suit the demand
4) more team building activities to encourage leadership skills and camaraderie.- (less bullying)
here are some of the problems that all parents face:
bullying and fights
kids are kids, and being human in nature; we also tend to vent our anger too. So the first approach is not to scold anyone, but to find out the reason of it occuring and counselled anyone at fault when the anger has subsided.
vulgarities
kids pick them up quickly as it attracts a lot of attention especially parents'
vulgarities are learned from internets, friends or even newspaper.
they are everywhere, therefore we have to teach them the proper usage of vulgarities and its consequences, like no one will want to stay close to someone that insults and make fun of people.
Sometimes kids are the most irritating people in the world and they are also the cutest people in the world at times. Enjoy your parent hood! = )
if there is any other feedbacks & opinion that you can suggest,
please post so that we can consider, plan and implement it. -

zhimin, I think it is highly commendable that service providers are taking the initiative to proactively seek feedback from their clients. Willingness to listen unreservedly is the first step to improving service levels, and if that translates into decisions that you take action on, your reputation will grow along with your base of happy clients.
I really hope more service providers will do what you are doing. -
Hi, My boy will be attending P1 next year. We’re in a dilema whether to put him in a BASC or leave him with his grandparents. Any advise?

If you manage to enroll your son into a good BASC, the outcome could be much better than leaving him with granny's. They would have proper teachers to mind the activities of your child. -
Hi Chief, currently he’s in CC for full day and spend very little time at home.So we are wondering how he’ll feel if going P1 and hv to be at BASC rather than home. Will it be too tiring for him. [/code]

Hi buds,
Thanks for sharing. The existing BASC is the BEST CONVENIENT centre liao. It's REAL near his primary school & not too far from home. There is 1 or 2 located across a street road, which i dun really like especially when there is a need to crosss the road with 1 teacher with handful of students
, and when come to rainy day with raincoat or umbrella?
Even as early as when he was in K1, i even wanted him to enrol to another BASC which is under operation as the CCC he used to attend during his preschool years. He had been there for 4 years and more or less with the boss & some the previous students from CCC. I found it better for him to adapt with what he is more familiar. After much considering the factor which is SCHOOL BUS TRANSPORT which means an extra expenses. That was about 2 streets away, about 20 mins walk, the bus fee will cost $40  So, by putting him up at this existing is the BEST CONVENIENT choice for me on top of any unhappiness.....
Anyway my main concern is that he is under the centre care in term of meals & revision work without much of my worry.
Hi,
Do you mean you put your child to after school care during K1? If yes, please let me know which school is that? I am urgently searching for after school centre in Hougang or seng kang for my daughter in K1.
Thanks. -

Opps, just notice i missed this thread.....
Sorry, i didn't state clearly on my earlier post.... I \"chop\" the vacancy for BASC when DS was in K1, cos that BASC is under the same operation/management by his CCC. In order to let him have the similar environment (as most of his kindergarten friends will be attending the same BASC), I had that thought then. After consdering the factors of travelling/convenience/transport cost invovled, i changed my mind and ended up enrol him to another BASC which is nearer to his primary school. :celebrate:
BASC is mainly for Primary school kids, where they need care & supervision (meal, homework, assesements and companion) before or after school. -

Me too! I’m also wondering if I should place my gal in BASC when she goes to P1. I wonder if she’ll find herself such a poor thing, go to school and BASC the whole day…very little time to rest at home. Wonder if the change of environment when she goes to P1 + to a BASC will be too much for them to handle. Any one can advise?
