Kuasimi:
Hi Chief, currently he's in CC for full day and spend very little time at home.So we are wondering how he'll feel if going P1 and hv to be at BASC rather than home. Will it be too tiring for him. [/code]
i have the same concern as kuasimi.
any advice? -
Luvkid:
Hi buds,
Thanks for sharing. The existing BASC is the BEST CONVENIENT centre liao. It's REAL near his primary school & not too far from home. There is 1 or 2 located across a street road, which i dun really like especially when there is a need to crosss the road with 1 teacher with handful of students
, and when come to rainy day with raincoat or umbrella?
Even as early as when he was in K1, i even wanted him to enrol to another BASC which is under operation as the CCC he used to attend during his preschool years. He had been there for 4 years and more or less with the boss & some the previous students from CCC. I found it better for him to adapt with what he is more familiar. After much considering the factor which is SCHOOL BUS TRANSPORT which means an extra expenses. That was about 2 streets away, about 20 mins walk, the bus fee will cost $40  So, by putting him up at this existing is the BEST CONVENIENT choice for me on top of any unhappiness.....
Anyway my main concern is that he is under the centre care in term of meals & revision work without much of my worry.
Hi,
Do you mean you put your child to after school care during K1? If yes, please let me know which school is that? I am urgently searching for after school centre in Hougang or seng kang for my daughter in K1.
Thanks. -

Opps, just notice i missed this thread.....
Sorry, i didn't state clearly on my earlier post.... I \"chop\" the vacancy for BASC when DS was in K1, cos that BASC is under the same operation/management by his CCC. In order to let him have the similar environment (as most of his kindergarten friends will be attending the same BASC), I had that thought then. After consdering the factors of travelling/convenience/transport cost invovled, i changed my mind and ended up enrol him to another BASC which is nearer to his primary school. :celebrate:
BASC is mainly for Primary school kids, where they need care & supervision (meal, homework, assesements and companion) before or after school. -

Me too! I’m also wondering if I should place my gal in BASC when she goes to P1. I wonder if she’ll find herself such a poor thing, go to school and BASC the whole day…very little time to rest at home. Wonder if the change of environment when she goes to P1 + to a BASC will be too much for them to handle. Any one can advise?

If you child has been in a CC before, usually he or she should have no problems adapting to a BASC environment. They would be used to having many other kids around and doing work assignments and eating together.
It may take more time for the child to adapt to BASC if he or she has not attend CC before, as the environment is very different from being at home. However, the plus points of a good BASC is that they have teachers who help monitor school work, plus sometimes they have extra 'tuition' for the kids after they have finished homework. The study discipline is there as compared with leaving them at home with their caregiver (usually grandparents or maids). So unless the kids are very disciplined and their caregivers are able to stick to a standard 'routine' for the kids to do their homework/assignements and not get distracted watching TV or playing computer games
..., I still think putting them in a good BASC is a better choice.

it is better to put the kids in the student care rather childcare BASC. The cc BASC teacher normally has o level and supervise them to do their work. no tuition provided.wcc:

Compare to student care where the teacher better educated and the centre has more student to play and discuss with. they may provide tuition too. -
I’m also facing this dilemma for next year when my boy starts primary 1.
There are pros and cons of both options.
granny
- home environment
- not able to coach in terms of school homework
BASC:
- can coach homework
- mix of children in a large environment, hence kids pick up things very fast, mainly undersirable behavior.
I’ve witnessed my nephew changing from a well-mannered boy to a talkative boy that says things that is beyond a P1 child after he enrolled in BASC.
sigh, dilemma -
mamemo:
My friend told me that her dd BASC does not coach homework. They only provide a place for them to do homework, if no homework they give and mark assessment told to purchase from the centre. Though they said that the child can ask the superivisor(they don't call them teacher), the supervisor usually reply the child don't know how, then the child still got to bring back the homework and ask the parent in the evening. :stupid:I'm also facing this dilemma for next year when my boy starts primary 1.

My friend wish to find out if this is the general operating guildline of BASC. -

Oh my, that's not very ideal.
