      Hey,

my DS is in SJI, sec 2 this year and I I believe he is doing well. In rugby and enjoying himself despite the three times a week CCA. Workload is managable and not overly stressful, and he is coping well with his exams which will be in september.

Not to worry, although the school places an emphasis on a catholic education but nothing is forced. I’m non catholic so i advise my Ds not to participate in those activities… but i give him the choice.

I hear that the camps are not just fun but something meaningful cna be taken out of it. My friends also praise SJI for its record of producing fine young gentlemen who are both intelligent and upright, most of them find a good stable job and settle down easily.

Hope you make a well informed choice this year end. SJI’s open house is this Saturday.

I have heard a lot about SJI, most students love it there, although they admit that the discipline there is a little more slack in comparison to other schools, which can work both ways. So if you’re after results and very stringent discipline, SJI is not the school for you. In such cases other schools like Catholic High and ACS are more suitable for you(within the same results range of course). What SJI seems to produce though are happy students, who generally look forward to school and are much nicer people overall compared to other schools.

So overall, its a choice based on what you want for your son. Do you want results out of him? Try schools like CHS and Anderson. Do you want a refined gentlemen who is nice to be around? Choose SJI.

If you son joins CHS he may be overworked and become very stressed, which would not be good for the overall wellbeing of your child.

SJI open house is on the 16th July. Although I won’t be there… lol…

jtoh - Tks!!! Is your DS currently in SJI? : )

junrahmat - Tks for the info!!! Which yr is your DS currently in? Sounds like he truly enjoying himself there... Appreciate it if you could share more... e.g., how's the school hrs like, workload (lota of h/w??) & in your opinion, any comments regarding the teachers, etc... Sorry... am really kancheong... juz like you (ahem, not the kancheong part but) hope to make the best decision for our DS....

Our DS has been slacking recently, hopefully by attending the open hse this Sat can help us make up our mind & also to boost him up abit...

            Tks again!!

DS is in sec 1. Officially, school ends at 2.30 pm, but could end earlier, depending on their time-table. Unlike most schools I know, SJI does not allow the boys to use their hp during curriculum time. So, every morning, the form tutors will collect the boys' hp and return them during dismissal time. Even that, they are only allowed to use their hp in the canteen. Initially I felt that this is such a silly idea as ds has to use the public phone during recess time, to call home to inform me whenever he has to stay back after school for project discussion. But now, I am thankful that the school is practicing this, as I heard from my friends that their children, studying in other schools, are text messaging their friends even during lessons! There's even one instance where I saw a friend's dd posting a message on her mother's wall in facebook, telling her that she's bored as the lesson she's having at that moment was boring! One girl even recorded her classmates and teacher in class using her hp and posted the video on fb!
As bt_low mentioned, workload is manageable. The teachers are mostly old boys. They are approachable but I find ds form tutor very 'lor sor'..

TKS ALL, for sharing your tots and also those valuable advices… Really appreciate it. BTW, do U kn if it makes any difference whether the kids get an IB Dip or GCE ‘A’ Lvl? Are they of equal value? In term of getting into Uni… If I remember correctly, the Josephians get IB Dip while CHS kids get GCE ‘A’ instead, rite?

              Tks & hv an awesome day… : )

                    Hi vidhyalog

Nope, decided to opt out cos it’s not only a time consuming process but a tedious one as well, and since PSLE is drawing close, don’t think we can afford the time. Probably by giving up this great opportunity, DS may have to work harder in order to achieve a higher T-score to get into the school of his choice but it’s worth it. At least he knows where his priority lies and he, NOT US, is responsible for his future. Better or worse, wider or narrower the choices all depend on his effort now, and he shall reap what he sows.

PSLE will kick-start next Thursday (Oral), so here’s wishing all candidates & parents the BEST of LUCK… = )

My DS has AL9 and considering between the 2 schs SJI and Anderson also. Cant decide which one to put as the 1st option. Both are good schools and distance is similar. And advice?
