2011 P1 Registration Exercise for 2012 In-Take
-
All the best to parents who will be registering their kid(s) under P2B…
Best of luck… -
Over the weekend, Zaobao reported that there is insufficient childcare facilities in Jurong and some childcare centres are over-enrolled. Translating this to P1 registration statistics in the next few years, we can expect the P1 enrollment in Jurong schools to get worse than the current situation.

PVs are informed there is no guarantee even after completing the hours chalked for a place...but still it's natural to have some expectations.
If P2B PV is scraped, then there is no reason for grassroot to be there as they do not even contribute to the schools. The earlier phases will be retricted to alumni and clan members only and people who are not alumni or clan members will have no means of getting to the school unless they are within 1km and lucky to be balloted in.Pen88n:
but perhaps in future one day ... combine with 2A(1), just form a simple 2(A).
if 2A ex-alumni members contribute back to the school by coming back as active parent volunteers for short hours (no more sleeping as been accused by some of you), then there is no need for P2B parent volunteers scheme anymore. P2B PVs will be abolished & scrapped.
Phase 2A is for former students & children of staff in school as well as advisory members. Why is there a need for alumni ?
Education Minister tells parents to register in a school close to home, so that kids don't have to spend long hours on road...but not all staying within 1km of the school get a place...esp for HOT schools. There is this 2 balloting slips for Singaporeans now...bcos of the increase of PRs.
Some parents don't bother about the distance. They just want the HOT schools. E.g. one of the popular schools in Bishan mentioned that the applicants for 2A2 came from Bukit Batok and Jurong. This is crazy as the traffic condition can be very unpredictable along high ways and on rainy days. I have a choice of registering my child under Phase 2b, but the school is very far for us, close to an hour of journey which also means that DS may have to wake up as early as 5.30am. Thus, we decide to give it up. -

It is becos of such enthusiastic parents that parent like myself hurt. We happen to live in a area where a popular school is, as my DH had been staying in that area for 30+ years. It is within 1km, but my DH is not an alumni of the school. He is unfortunate to be born into a big family and when he went to school, he is penalised under the old 2 child policy. I unfortunately went to a girl school, so my DS don't qualify.
We are in a terrible situation now, as the alternative is the schools in a another nearby area, which most parents will not send their kids to. -

May I ask in what way did they contribute? The point I'm trying to make is too many abuse this, and it is time to take a closer look at this. But giving them a chance to be equal to 2B is very fair to me.
1) the ex students past psle results contributed to the \"popularity\" of the what the school is having now.Celyw:
P2A(2) is flawed as most will choose not to join alumni as they do not want to pay for it. Some might argue that this is not fair to those poorer. I suggest dividing equally the vacancy after P2A(1), if odd number just allocate to those in P2A(2)
why is this flaw? the ex students who studied there did help to contribute to the school in their simple ways as compare to those parent who did not study there but now want their kids to get in because it is a good school?
2) the ex students have their fair share of donation and flag days for their school
3) the ex students have done their duties to keep the school clean and neat by doing gardening, picking up litters, etc
They are not free riders as what you claimed. But they are in a position where you does not enjoy hence you are not happy. -
I must have asked this before but is the P2B results updated live on teletext?
-
P2A(2) is NOT flawed.
I missed joining the deadline for alumni…but even if I could, I wouldn’t do so, because I do not have any time to contribute to alumni meetings. I have $80 to join the alumni but it’s not fair to join alumni just to secure a place for my daughter and ignore what’s going on after that. However, parents are invited to be Parent Volunteers when their children are registered there.
In my opinion, Phase 2A should stay and priority to be given to the children of ex-students. One doesn’t have to be a President’s Scholar to bring glory to the school in order for his/her child to gain priority right ? Students would definitely have done their fair share during their school days. -
Getting kan cheong…registering my daughter this afternoon and already 20+ people have registered for the remaining 30+ places in P2B…sigh. Ballot time. Unless of cse the 20+ people include those beyond 1km as well.

just a thot came to mind… if i m a 6 yr old kid waiting to start school next yr what will this P1 registration exercise tell me?
that connection will give me priority? bcos of my sibling or parent i can cut queue. connection more important than merit?
everything been equal, if i or my family are able or willing to pay i will get higher priority? money can help to cut queue?
those without connection and money will have to depend on luck? its ok to gamble?
i dun hv the answers but honestly all these is giving the 6 yr old mixed or even wrong singals -

P1 registration isn't based at all on merit. By merit do you mean academic ability? It would be inappropriate to test a 6 year old's ability at such a young age.just a thot came to mind... if i m a 6 yr old kid waiting to start school next yr what will this P1 registration exercise tell me?
