2011 P1 Registration Exercise for 2012 In-Take
-
the reason why acps has less vacancies than acjs may not just be a disparity in standard but historical in the sense that acps used to be in coleman street and has a bigger intake compared to acjs which used to be in baker road. as such there are more registration for acps than acjs in phase 2A1 and 2A2.

u misunderstood me.
not just the name but the school system, the school spirit, the teaching methods, the school enviornment, the syllabus, the best practices etc. Which is why i mentioned a need for some of the experienced staff from the original school to go hand held the new teachers and staff so that they can hopefully have another RGPS, ACPS, Anderson Pri etc. It would be take much easier than trying to start from scratch.
i not not suggesting close down ALL schools and have 1 master system. What i am suggesting to to let schools that cant cope with any additional enrolment to open up another campus working closely with the original school.
think about it. a school like acps. founded in 1886. how many students does it have over the past decades and centuries? unless we increase its enrolment more and more people will be deprived of a ACPS education the ACPS experience in future. but there is space constrains to how many pupils can be housed in a single location. So a possible option is for ACPS to try to have another location or multiple locations eg Jurong. This also serve the interest of those who used to stay in Bt Timah but now say stay in Jurong.
i dun mean making all 180 schools in spore to become like RGPS or ACPS or Anderson Pr. But is spore not big enuf to have say 2 ACPS? 3 SCGS? 2 Henry Park? As the alumi population increase and due to immigrants, sooner or later some alumni will be deprived of a vacancy in their alm mater for their children unless the school expand and we all know there is a space constrain here and so unless there is more than 1 campus there is a limit of how many old boys and old girls can let their children study in their alm mater.
i remember talking to one of the pastors about this too (well, i was going to register my son and worried about the no. of places made available as well). the idea of moving to a new location and opening a branch were discussed by the school and there isnt a suitable solution yet. but the latter is not that a popular idea. -
Sorry to interuppt but there is a different thread available if you wish to voice your opinions on the primary school registration process ->

hi LOLMum care to elaborate why it wasnt a popular idea? hope it is not due to a fear of losing exclusiveness . . . which is why i mentioned in an earlier post MOE has to step in and work with the schools and if need be force the schools… after all the schools are service provider. the P1 Reg Exercise is very stressful and cause a lot of anxiety for parents

That's our point. Even with only 2 'branches', we can already detect differing standards. So what makes us confident that having more 'branches' equates bringing the same standard available to more students?
It takes more than just imitating the teaching method, materials etc to replicate the overall academic results of a sch. Two teachers presenting the same slides may achieve very different outcome with their students.
For many schs that achieved good academic results, it's not just due to their system and teachers. There're also the student cohort's overall hardwork & aptitude, their parents involvement and maybe even those deep pockets who send the kids to enrichment programmes.
Because there are more variables at play than what's intrinsic to the sch, forcefully setting up 'branches' of popular schs will not achieve the aim that you hope for. On the contrary, such an exercise would most likely adversely affect the standard of the main branch due to staff movement/increased administration.
But I do agree with you that it'll be useful for new schs to evaluate - and adopt where applicable - the teaching methods of top performing schs. Not 100% sure, but I've a feeling they are already doing that. -
