For Sports DSA, itโ€™s important to check if your childโ€™s CCA is in the DSA list of sports of the school youโ€™re applying for. I had a friend whose daughter was an athlete and she intended to apply through athletics DSA. However that year, the school of her choice was NOT looking to take in athletes via DSA, although they had done so in previous years. Something to take note of.

But then within IP schools, they split their students between GEP and mainstream. Majority of students got into RI, RGS, etc actually thru PSLE route doing fine.

          That's good to know.

I agree. The training the GEP kids receive in their project & daily work makes them independent learners and more suited for the IP route. This is what the IP schools look out for during their DSA selection process. It is not just results, but aptitude and attitude.

I was at the Open House of one of Singapore's premier schools (not IP). The Principal said that you should choose IP schools only if you are a GEP student or someone who's an independent learner and capable of doing project work. Otherwise, the IP route is not for you.
Yes right...my son is in Year2 in an IP school now...SUPER busy and tough... got to be really independent...and no amount of tuition outside can help. Though no 'O' level exams but they have other tasks or projects to ensure the students are challenged and prepared for 'A' levels.
Just my input on what i personally know based on my son's current experience.

                  Hi,

What I can understand from various parents who children study in the IP
Sec Sch. we can more or less conclude that IP program just like a modified of GEP program. It is very tough, quite a number of students drop out, like HCI has two classes (if I am not wrong) taking O level, same for NYGS one ot two classes.

Any parent would like to comment about this issues. Thank u!

According to the explanation given by the principal, these students are identified as those who are more suited for structured learning. They will be able to do very well for O-levels given the proper guidance from the teachers. That's why the school gives them this option to do O-levels instead.

So it's not so much of \"drop out\". At least, I think the school cares enough for these students to have teachers specially prepare them for O-levels.

So some parents here have accurately pointed out that the demand for IP curriculum is very different. Really needs to be independent and have constant quest for knowledge.

I have a feeling that NYGH, for one, is trying to avoid this situation of students having to go the O-level route.

From the recent release of DSA offers from NYGH, I found that there are girls who are the very top in their CCA in the whole of SG, but were rejected while those who are not as good were offered. Possibly they are now moving towards taking in only students that they think can cope in IP programme.
