DS is in air pistol. Ya, since this term all HW n Ace projects are done on the computer. I have not seen any paper works this term.When his classmates came over to do projects, all of them were working on their own computer :scratchhead: .
DS live,eat n sleep n:imconstipated: with the computer these days. His facebook is on almost 24Hrs :mad: When ask, he will give excuses like asking classmates abt HW or checking for something :frustrated:
Your DS computer habits sound similar to my DS - ie my DS is always on computer during waking hours except when eating and sxxxting. He gives similar excuses to what your DS gives when I ask him.
Does your DS bring the laptop to school everyday? mine does. I wonder if it is necessary for him to do so? OR does he bring to school for games.
What time does your DS use the computer everynite? during school nites as well as fri and sat during school term? Mine use til 12 midnite on school nites because I set the rules and 1 am on fri and sat. But he is unhappy with the 1 am cut off time on fri and sat as he feels other frens get to use till 3/4 am?We are having constant arguments on this.
As one parent said it is ok if his grades are ok. But DS grades (SEC 3) are MSG 4 plus in Term 1 and 3.8 in Term 2. So that is below average.

DS sleeps at 11pm every night, so not true that \"other frens use till 3/4 am\". Maybe just a minority.
They tend to be a little rebellious at this stage, need to handle their emotions carefully. DS can be temperamental also, but only occasionally, so I am quite fortunate in this sense. Also need to communicate regularly with them. Communication does not equal to \"interrogating\" or \"demanding\", so our tone has to reflect the same. It's hard, but I think a good relationship with the child is important at this stage.

Agree with lizawa, we have to be very careful with how we communicate with teenage kids. So far, he is quite receptive and I try not to sound negative and not to nag too often. He sleeps around 11:00pm at night.

My boys do most of their studies at the dining table. Only when we need to use the dining table, they study in their study rooms. I suppose I am lucky that the boys usually tell me what they are doing - like which subject they are revising or what kind of projects they are doing. They tell me not because they think I don’t trust them. They sometimes seek my advice about their revision plan as whether they are spending too much or too little time on one subject or if their study methods are on the right track.

My DS (Sec2) brought computer to sch almost everyday for last term for online lesson, project day n other subject projects,did not see much paperwork. But this term,he only brings his computer 3x a wk and i see a lot of paperwork nowaday .
Just chatted with DS regarding sch 2day over dinner. He told me most of his classmates were playing computer games in sch and even during online lessons :scratchhead: don ask me how they do it. :frustrated:
DS reaches home only after 6.30pm every nite so he turns on his com once he steps into the house. He does his works at the dinning table so can see him on Facebook in between his works :mad: Sick of arguing with him ,so made a deal with him last term, that I will try to be more relax with him as long as he reaches my expectation. He did better than what I asked for so I control myself when I see him on Facebook .
DS goes to bed @10pm during sch days , latest 11.30pm when he can't finish his works . He only off his com when he goes to bed. wkend we let him play till 12MN the latest.
Yes ,DS is also temperamental this yr always telling his younger brother off , can be quite rude sometimes but only dared to answer back. Have heard him n his classmates cursing when they came over to do project but never dare to curse in front of us. Agreed with lizawa that communicating with them is v important . Luckily DS loves to tell me what happened in sch and also seek advice before he decide on major stuff

My friend was just complaining to me about how exasperated she is with her sec 2 boy being hooked onto the computer day and night and here I see the same issue. Whilst I am sure this and the difficulty of communicating with teenage kids are the main headaches for many parents, I can’t help wonder if HCI is a little slack over its control of, for instance, gaming during lessons and if the situation is worse than in other schools.

HCI teachers are very on in catching students playing computer games in school. Once they are caught gaming they will be given DP and have to do corrective work , cause DS was caught once :spank: now he will think twice before playing in school
Boys are always boys they will try to test the water every time even they know is dangerous :imdrowning:

Thanks mum42. It's comforting to know that the teachers are on. My friend is feeling frustrated parenting her son who was very 'guai' but now impossibly rebellious. She is disappointed that the school is not stricter with the boys though personally I can't understand how. I think the trick is to keep them busy with outdoor activities so CCA is good

Talking about computer games, its prevalent among boys from all schools. As is a streamline passage to HCI senior high, many will be complacent and just do whatever is necessary to achieve a decent gpa of 3 and above. Most will wake up their idea in yr 5 because that’s where you will see red marks for the first time in their academic life. In yr 6, especially during the mid yr common test before prelims and A-level, all will start to chiong and you will observe that yr kids are all so hardworking much more than during PSLE. This common test will see your kids performing the worst in their entire academic life. The papers are sat to make the students wake up their idea. No mercy shall be shown and school will adopt a dam straight marking policy. For example, if any of the papers your kids can score 60 marks is considered very good. Btw this also applies to RI and all other jcs so no need to worry.
