Any abacus classes in Yishun area?
Hi there a few abacus classes in Yishun
1) Edufarm - 3G Abacus and Mental Math
Blk 108 Yishun Ring Road and Blk 858 Yishun Ave 4
2) CMA at Chong Pang
3) Chong Pang Community Club
4) Nee Soon Central CC @ Blk 749
Currently my DS is attending the abacus class there. Just start 2 classes. -
different types of abacus are used in training children, in above centres:-
i) the one taught at CMA abacus classes uses ‘soroban’ abacus – ie. 1 bead at the top, with 4 beads below. see picture:-
http://www.cma-sg.com/programme-whycma.html
ii) the one taught in 3G abacus classes uses another type of abacus.
see picture:-

so I posed Dr. a qn to Yeap Ban Har – which abacus is easier to learn or master ? which would you recommend ?
he replied :-
\"Not much difference. The focus is on number sense and visualization.
which is easier to learn depends on - who teaches it.
so focus on a good Teacher, rather than on the actual programme.
a good Teacher not only instils in the child mathematical skills, but also inspires discipline in thinking and greater motivation for learning.\" -

Hi, just a sharing and it's my own perception. If u are thinking abt bukit timah area, I had bad experience with Bukit Timah CC, the weekday evening Abacus class conducted by Ms. LXXX Tan (the lady with spectacles and always in maroon T-shirt with 3/4 long skirt). Her class is conducted in army style with shouting and yelling. Forcing the students to do thumb/finger thumb/finger all the times start from the very 1st lesson where the basic understanding of abacus is not fully impacted in their minds. The poor kids suffered and lost interest easily. I observed and dragged till 5th lesson. She does not welcome kid who is not obedient doing thumb/finger as she likes. My son is one of the kids she commented and disliked, and she simply gave up on him and welcome my withdrawal, it was because he did not follow the action of thumb/finger all the times although he undertsands the concept and do all the homework correctly.mummies,
any reviews? my son is with mpm right now and so far so good but i want him to be faster in mental calculations so thinking of putting him in a abacus class in bt timah area. need reviews..
Imagine, she was rude and chased me out from the class after i argued with her on the teaching style, her attitude and insulting was too hard to swallow, though I got a full refund from the office.
I am a reasonable parent, I would like my child to enjoy the learning process by understanding and looking forward to explore more in every subject he learns. Ms Lina Tan almost kill his interest.
My son is now with Choa Chu Kang CC, we signed him up immediately after the withdrawal, he is very happy there and look forward to attend the class everyweek, for 1.5hrs on Sat. I see the positive progress and this should be the way. -
