A couple more days to the dsa camp and I believe most of you out there are getting excited/anxious.
This is my 1st post and a little sharing as a parent of NUSHians.
I believe this camp serves to suss out the right type of personality for the unique school environment so it is not necessary to do any kind of studying/preparation.
From my observation, kids who are good team-players and independent thrives in the environment. Team spirit required for the vast numbers/types of group-based projects and independence for the beyond classroom quest for knowledge.
Just to reveal a little known fact, there are a few extremely talented kids in this school who exhibits some autistic characteristics. So if you do meet a kid who does not respond to your questions or runs away from you, do not be alarm, you could have just met a Einstein/Newton-to-be.
So to the kids who will be there this Sat, do get a good night rest, have a good breakfast, relax your mind and enjoy yourselves. My son and his fun-loving friends will be there to guide you. Have fun! -

Yeap, very true. In my DD class is a small-built autistic boy who is apparently a math wizard but his behaviour is somewhat anti-social and unacceptable. Initially the other boys simply cannot accept him, shun him and constantly bully him in term 1 and 2. But I believe they have now realised and accepted his condition .A couple more days to the dsa camp and I believe most of you out there are getting excited/anxious.

I know who this boy is. Quite a handsome looking kid. He can solve a complex math problem without using pen and paper. The solution is all in his mind and he blurts out the answer step-by-step. Very amazing!

My son found the science material at the dsa camp difficult. He is not a science person and was looking for maths related quizes etc. He said at one stage he saw the assessor mark almost everyone in his group Zero. He seemed quite discouraged and thought maybe he is not cut out for the school anymore…

My boy mentioned tt Physics experiment is tough...he enjoyed Bio & esp Chemistry experiment. Do not be discouraged as we never know how they assess the candidates & who knows....your son is one of the few without zero in his grp? So...cheer up & all the best in the coming prelim & PSLE...ganbatte! :rahrah: -

I think my son will enjoy NUSH as he is one of those who \"wants the truth\" rather than what his textbook says. This streak often cost him dearly because he disagreed with ALL the MCQ answers. As to whether he is suitable for this curriculum, I leave it to the school's selection process. Que sera, sera!

My daughter is a mainstream kid with no impressive academic track record in Maths, but has a lot of passion in Science. We too are wondering what her chance is.
I should join you in singing Que sera sera too UncleLim. -

U never know, only the school knows what they are looking for in an applicant. Anyway, good luck to both your DS & DD. Hope they make it! -

Thanks DVL :). We will accept the outcome, whatever it is.

This is a cool thread. I know so much about the school just by reading all the previous posts! Will come back to check frequently. -
hey, I’m new in this thread. I need some info on NUSH. My Ds like NUSH. However, I’m quite skeptical of him going to the school. It’s because the school is focusing on Math & Science. He might think that he likes Math now. But what if he realise that his strength is not in Math when he grows older???
Here are my questions. Hope that someone can help to clear my doubts…
a) Is it too young to narrow the choices for the kid at such a young age? I thought IP school is better because of holistic educatin.
b) What are the choices for the child for entry to University? Must they continue with Math & Science faculty? Can they choose others like business or accountancy?
Appreciate some advise here… thanks in advance.
