U never know, only the school knows what they are looking for in an applicant. Anyway, good luck to both your DS & DD. Hope they make it!
This is a cool thread. I know so much about the school just by reading all the previous posts! Will come back to check frequently. -
hey, I’m new in this thread. I need some info on NUSH. My Ds like NUSH. However, I’m quite skeptical of him going to the school. It’s because the school is focusing on Math & Science. He might think that he likes Math now. But what if he realise that his strength is not in Math when he grows older???
Here are my questions. Hope that someone can help to clear my doubts…
a) Is it too young to narrow the choices for the kid at such a young age? I thought IP school is better because of holistic educatin.
b) What are the choices for the child for entry to University? Must they continue with Math & Science faculty? Can they choose others like business or accountancy?
Appreciate some advise here… thanks in advance. -
well, if he wants to go there very badly, and he's working towards getting in, then u shdn't worry too much.

Have read the news that the NUS high performed very well in maths, physics, chemistry , biology Olympiad competition .
The school seems in the right track. Keep it up. -

My advice is to all those kids out there who really passion for any of the sciences or mathematics and have seriously consider their future careers in one of those areas - NUSH is really a good place to start in preparation for those future goal.Have read the news that the NUS high performed very well in maths, physics, chemistry , biology Olympiad competition .

Totally agreed with you, walterp. DS is in Year 1 - the so called foundation year, based on his current Maths & Science curriculum and syllabus, I must say NUSH is building a very strong foundation. I find it quite amazing at the depth at which the Science topics are covered, definitely deeper than \"O\" level. How the school stretch the kids is another story!

my gut feeling is that those who complete the 6 yr prog will not fall short of the B.Sc standard of the NUS.

As a matter of fact, most of them (taking science-related or mathematics) are already one-foot in NUS or NTU b'cos of their advanced research programme. Of course there are some chose to go business or law. Most of them graduated with NUSH Dip with major honours with High distinction and distinction.
Not mentioning recognition by major IVY league and OxBridge , a Diploma with merit is an almost a gurantee place in any of 4 local u. So much for competing with the \"A\" level. That's the reason why I had no qualm in advising my DD to chose NUSH above RGS where most of her GEP classmates went to. Her GEP classmate top in RGPS 2010 PSLE is also in NUSH and not RGS for a change. I think more girls will join this year. -

Initially, I was worried that those in NUSH has to continue with either mathematics or science in Uni. But seems like it's not the case. My Ds is pretty outspoken, love to talk. His best subj is Math follows by Science. So, I thought maybe \"research work\" might not suits his character. He doesn't like to be doctor. He wants to be a businessman. So, I thought maybe NUSH doesn't suits him.
Btw, does your DD in NUSH has enrichment class? I'm just wondering since year 1 science is so much more in depth, is there any enrichment class out there for NUSH student? -
