May I ask parents here if the school is academically driven ? Particularly the P5/6 students ?

This response might be a tad too late. Anyway, my child is only in Pri 1 but I do NOT get the feeling that the school is very academically driven. Instead it looks at an all-rounded development of the children in terms of expressing themselves (through the show and tell, speech and drama) and learning through exploration (PAL program). Also, the sch has a policy of no homework on Fridays so that says alot.

I would expect schools who are results driven to be giving tonnes of homework, tuition or enrichment programmes.

oh, no homework on fridays... so that children will have more time with family... not sure is it good or bad :?

Why would spending more time with family be bad?? 🙂
I fully advocate this for greater work life balance..

WCW, yes born in 2005. When he was born we thought he would b gg to the other nearby very very popular school, but over the years it seems impossible to get in. Lucky draw style, even within 1 km. Worse is, if fail 2C also have to ballot 2C Sup at AGPS. Anyway, went to AGPS open house in May and had a very good feeling about this school. Better than some others further away. From the numbers one can tell this school also getting more popular.

I went through the same dilemna as you. Finally a visit to AGPS gave me good vibes and decided to go with my guts for once. No regrets so far.
Not too stressful environment and my child is enjoying herself.

Well, 2C seemed like not a problem, but 2C supp is gg to be tough competition. Given the high rate of oversubscription for the other popular schools. Glad we went agps straight away. And yes, gg to the other school is like a hype. Not v sure following hype suits each and every kid, indeed. And by the way, heard agps also offers higher Chinese. As long as your kid can do it. Will see how things go. But we have confidence in the school. Parents can also refer to the school’s Facebook page.

Yes that’s what we were told during open house! Regarding PV at ncps: they rejected our application 2 years ago. Last year another rejection letter; we are not clan members. Heard this year being clan member was not sufficient to secure a place: they required 80 hours PV fr clan member. Normal PV is 40 hours I thought. No wonder for 2 years they didn’t want our hours as outsiders.

To what I know the children in AGPS seemed quite disciplined and I am sure the school does enforce rules as there are regular spot checks on personal grooming etc.

In terms of being academic driven, alot will depend on the teachers' style of teaching and the parents' reinforcement at home.
As parents, we have to work with the teacher to ensure the child hands in the daily homework and that there's regular communication if there any doubts.

BTW I have a relative studying in North Vista. It seemed like a very tech advanced school and have interesting teaching methods. I can't tell if they are less academic driven but they seem to have alot of enrichment activities.
