Jav, your numbed confirmed? Even the numbers of PR? I was hoping that there would be more PR so I thought my chance would be higher, as a singaporean… having learned that acjs need to ballot…

Jas007:
To factor in that additional slip:haven't analyze it ...
but does the math factor in that when a citizen whose name has been drawn gets picked again, that 2nd slip is not counted and removed from the ballot box IF and WHEN it gets drawn again ... (is this the procedure ?)
[it's not like if it's done via a computer such that duplicates of names already drawn can be instantly be omitted from the balance]
so the total number keeps getting reduced ... depreciating
so let's say if 62 Sg 14 PRs ... for 63 places
say 12 places left (51 filled, 49 SG (yeah i'm biased lol) 2 PRs ... but total no. of ballots done = 62, ie 11 of these are from names redraw)
balance number of slips in box = (62-49) x2 + (49-11) + (14-2) = 26 + 38 + 12 = 76 slips
i feel with every subsequent draw that pulls out a N/A slip ... the chances of a PR being drawn thereafter actually increases ... am i right ? or am i just paranoid ? lol
yeah sure we could say that those SG yet to e drawn has 2 chances to 1 of PR's
but when the next one drawn is a PR's, then the heat will really be turned on isn't it ?
i liken this to say Lucky Draw coupons they hand out to you for every $10 purchase at a PC Show etc
does mean your chances of winning anything at all is greatly enhanced if u spent $10,000 and have 1000 slips in the box
when push comes to shove and we are down to the last 10 prizes ...
every slip (doesn't matter whose) has an equal chance of being drawn ....
10 parents going for 5 vacancies. 5 are Singaporeans. 5 are PRs.
The probability that a Singaporean will win the 1st draw will be 10/(10+5) = 0.67
The probability that a Singaporean will win the 2nd draw will be:
8/(9+5) + (1/(9+5)*8/(9+4)) = 0.61 (as compared with 0.62)
The decision tree gets complicated after this... I'm too old and lazy to compute it on a Sunday morning
But in reality, it does reduce the chances of Singaporeans being chosen (with that extra piece of \"useless\" ballot still floating around in the box), but very insignificantly (1% as computed in that above case). But remember that the extra \"useless\" ballot also reduces the chance of a PR being selected => essentially, the scenario is that we can either pick a SG, a PR, or that \"useless\" ballot. So nobody actually benefits.

I would like to ask if you put your name in the waiting list for the school, in what circumstances that the school will grant you a place? Please kindly advise.

Hi kissgurami,
Another way shows that the country/school ensure that the locals have priority over PRs n foreigners. But do u think SG does that. PRs here can have rights by just registering and ballot with locals n if got ballot in means that their kids are able to study in public schools.
their system is different from ours.. if you want to be in a good school, being parents , you will need to have the status and $$ into the school and it still depends if the school wants to accept you.
They have state schools (can be known as our neighbourhood schools but the facilities are nowhere our standard, I have been to a couple to have a look) -

Yeah. The first suggestion is what Dr Tony Tan said: \"Singaporean first\" education. -
I read all the news about Primary One registration with interest. Having gone through balloting for my son last year (luckily it was successful!) I can feel for all those involved this year. So good luck to you.
I am not sure this has been discussed before. But I really wonder if the new Minister of Education is going to review the policy on registration for Primary One. To think that there are children who do not get to the Primary school which is just a five minutes walk from their home just does not seem right. Because of "luck" of the ballot, the child have to endure longer distance from home for the next 6 years. That’s sad.
I don’t foresee the situation to improve soon if the system of registration remain the same. In fact it will get worst. The registration in Phase 1 will continue to rise as the alumini for the popular primary school increase year by year. It might come a stage of balloting for Phase One! I know it will be very tricky to change such a system since it has been entrenched.
I just wonder if we should leave this as it is or would there be a review to ensure children who live very close to the school does get to be in school without the waste in time and money in travelling to and fro from school. -
any suggestion … how to make the new Education Minister and MOE to come to KSP site here, read all the comments ?
and to activate something to the current situation, before it worsen ?
