Hi DLS goers,
Does anyone know when we will receive
the letter from school indicating agenda
of orientation details??
:? -
In fact, after the balloting, i feel so tired & just want to relax for a while & never think about the orientation. Anyway, just now I saw fr other thread that some parents (not DLS) already receive the agenda for the orientation. I am not so “ken cheong” for the letter as already know that the date is on 17 Nov 09, so maybe wait & see lor. Now, I more concern about the childcare arrangement, bear in mind that the school is shifted in 2011 – 2012, so have to take this into consideration.
Today is the balloting day for P2CS, all the best to the parents who involve -
Hi All,
I’m an old girl for South View Pri. However, I’ve lost touch with the development of the schools. My Girl is currently 1 yr’s old, and being kiasu, I would like to do some ground work first…
Hence, can any parents share with me their views on South View… Heard from colleague that SV has become 1 of the popular school… why? was it because of their PSLE results ? What about the principal and teachers…?
Alternatively, I’m thinking of Bukit Panjang Pri Sc, as I’ve read much good reviews of the school and my parents stays within 1km of the school.
At the moment, my girl stays with my parents during weekday.
Do I have to go thru balloting if I’m using my parent’s address for registrations in future?
please advise. -

If you successfully use your parents' address, you will have to add 1km to the address. Therefore, your parents' home will fall under 1-2km range instead of the <1km range. At the moment, my girl stays with my parents during weekday.

South View had become one of the popular school in CCK area. Since you are old girl, you can enjoy to register at Phase 2A(2) with 0 competition.Hi All,

As for using parent's address to apply at Bukit Panjang, the distance would consider as 1-2Km instead of 1Km. You may consider to perform PV of BPPS as in Phase 2C it is always have balloting. -
SVPS and BPPS are both very popular schools. By the time your girl starts P1, the principals will probably not be the current principals as typically principals stay in a primary school for about 5-6 years. The current SV principal is on her 4th year this year.
As for PSLE results, you can check the MOE website. SVPS does not produce the highest PSLE score pupil in CCK area. For 2008, YTPS produced the 3rd PSLE top score pupil, scoring 284. Few years ago, Unity primary produced 2 PSLE top scorers.
For your situation, my suggestion is you ask yourself what do you look for in a primary school and step up on the information research when your girl is about 3 as you will also have a better grip of her learning style by then.
Using your parent's address to register for phase 2C within 1km, you can read Q26-Q30 of FAQ on MOE's website :

South View has achieving consistent excellent results according to the whole PERCENTAGE and not just by the top students alone. In my opninion, although I do agree that the top students, to a certain extent, exhibit the standards of the school a little, but this view is very one-sided. The crux of my opninion is that top students' marks are not enough to actually signify the school's standards. I will leave this question to you to reflect upon : If a certain school contains one and only Singapore top scorer, but all the other students did not do resonably well, then can you justify the fact that the school is good.SVPS and BPPS are both very popular schools. Thank you for the question you left for me. I pondered upon that when I registered my child for P1 4 years ago.
However, I was merely answering mexx’s question about PSLE results and the popularity of South View. I think each parent has to search within themselves what they are looking for in a school and not send their child to ‘the school that everyone wants to get into’ as the school that is BEST is the one that is BEST for their child.
I have had people asking me why send your child to XXX school when it didn’t even acheive 100% PSLE passes or produced top PSLE scorer ? Har ? You even had to PV ? But I knew the reasons for my decision and even though I do not know if I had done the right thing, I know I have tried my best.
Schools producing top PSLE scorers generally attract many P1 applicants the following year - as can be seen from the history of Unity Primary and Yew Tee Primary. As to whether that equates to it being a "good" school, I have my own conclusion and I leave you to yours.
