      Hi All,

I’m an old girl for South View Pri. However, I’ve lost touch with the development of the schools. My Girl is currently 1 yr’s old, and being kiasu, I would like to do some ground work first…

Hence, can any parents share with me their views on South View… Heard from colleague that SV has become 1 of the popular school… why? was it because of their PSLE results ? What about the principal and teachers…?

Alternatively, I’m thinking of Bukit Panjang Pri Sc, as I’ve read much good reviews of the school and my parents stays within 1km of the school.
At the moment, my girl stays with my parents during weekday.
Do I have to go thru balloting if I’m using my parent’s address for registrations in future?

      please advise.

If you successfully use your parents' address, you will have to add 1km to the address. Therefore, your parents' home will fall under 1-2km range instead of the <1km range.

South View had become one of the popular school in CCK area. Since you are old girl, you can enjoy to register at Phase 2A(2) with 0 competition.

As for using parent's address to apply at Bukit Panjang, the distance would consider as 1-2Km instead of 1Km. You may consider to perform PV of BPPS as in Phase 2C it is always have balloting.

SVPS and BPPS are both very popular schools. By the time your girl starts P1, the principals will probably not be the current principals as typically principals stay in a primary school for about 5-6 years. The current SV principal is on her 4th year this year.

As for PSLE results, you can check the MOE website. SVPS does not produce the highest PSLE score pupil in CCK area. For 2008, YTPS produced the 3rd PSLE top score pupil, scoring 284. Few years ago, Unity primary produced 2 PSLE top scorers.

For your situation, my suggestion is you ask yourself what do you look for in a primary school and step up on the information research when your girl is about 3 as you will also have a better grip of her learning style by then.

Using your parent's address to register for phase 2C within 1km, you can read Q26-Q30 of FAQ on MOE's website :
            http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/faqs/#statutory-declaration

South View has achieving consistent excellent results according to the whole PERCENTAGE and not just by the top students alone. In my opninion, although I do agree that the top students, to a certain extent, exhibit the standards of the school a little, but this view is very one-sided. The crux of my opninion is that top students' marks are not enough to actually signify the school's standards. I will leave this question to you to reflect upon : If a certain school contains one and only Singapore top scorer, but all the other students did not do resonably well, then can you justify the fact that the school is good.

Thank you for the question you left for me. I pondered upon that when I registered my child for P1 4 years ago.

However, I was merely answering mexx’s question about PSLE results and the popularity of South View. I think each parent has to search within themselves what they are looking for in a school and not send their child to ‘the school that everyone wants to get into’ as the school that is BEST is the one that is BEST for their child.

I have had people asking me why send your child to XXX school when it didn’t even acheive 100% PSLE passes or produced top PSLE scorer ? Har ? You even had to PV ? But I knew the reasons for my decision and even though I do not know if I had done the right thing, I know I have tried my best.

Schools producing top PSLE scorers generally attract many P1 applicants the following year - as can be seen from the history of Unity Primary and Yew Tee Primary. As to whether that equates to it being a "good" school, I have my own conclusion and I leave you to yours.

Dear 2010 Pr 1 in CCK,

I saw an ad near blk289, mentioned that there are a FREE in-HOUSE assessment test on this coming Sat, 10am, for 2010 Pr1 students in the student care at blk 289.

Wow! that good something free to test our own children.

Parents. No harm to go for the test. Anyway is FREE.

                  Cheer!

South View has once again displayed its consistent and excellent results by producing TWO of the NATIONAL TOP TEN STUDENTS of aggregate 286. It also produces 34 students with aggregate 260 and above. South View is definitely the TOP school in Choa Chu Kang and also, as kaisuparents have mentioned, relieve its status as a \"neighbourhood school\" by entering the honour list of students more than 275 in three consecutive years!!

Surprise De La Salle didn't produce any students with aggregate 275 and above nor top national students for the past two years...seeing the number of votes it has gotten...

Congrats to all South View students who did well !! :celebrate:

                      @ reginaisadog,
There is no need to put down DLS or any other schools in CCK even though you are very much supportive of South View.

Whether us as parents prefer to put our kids into which school
is purely our own choice. Putting our kids in South View do not necessarily also mean the child would surely obtain 260 or >.

Not only SV is better than DLS in terms of results, SV also has better school attitude.
For example, last year when I made enquiry abt PV to DLS and also to SV, DLS would not bother to respond, even if I wrote to the DLS principal.
But SV would reply to my query about PV scheme, even the SV principal would take time to reply my email.
                        A big difference in attitude.
