NTU valedictorian apologises for F-word slip
-
WCW:
:yikes: , My DDs are aware of the F-word and has been taught that it is a bad word to be used since they overheard some guys using it. Imagine 2 little girls using it in their sentences, my heart just stopped
even DS in his cc learn the F-word from his frds whose parents (i met one day) are also using the F-word at their child...
There were quite a number of other words they learnt from CC and they are used by parents on their kids :faint:
example, *idiot* :skeptical:
Teenagers just use it so casually and ignore that young kids are around them :slapshead: , you can't help to think what kind of upbringing is that .... -

:hi5: Agree totally.I would say, it is rather hard to \"mind your language\" in this current society. I don't endorse such language during family gathering nor social events where I am involved but apart from that, I would have to close an eye.
Being a Valedictorian, place and timing does command respect to that moment and people attending hence it wasn't appropriate at all in that context. Though, I was amazed that some parents were actually ok with it then again each to their own.
She has apologised and moved on, hope the rest can learn from the situation and avoid using profanity in expressing excitement during such functions
While I am totally against using profanity, I can't stop others.....can only try to inculcate that into my kids and DH (hee hee, did hear DH using some during our young young days and after much protest, hardly heard any).
Sure hope my kids will not think it's ' cool' next time. -

yes, once DS asked me what is CB as he overheard in the MRT some teenagers are using this wordKissgurami:

Reminds me of the episode over live radio with Victor Khoo. Anyone else remember it?

Hey, this girl looks like disco going type so maybe is her occassional habit. Suitable for PR job with her above average look. Educated and a bit hot, our guys like it.

Totally not appropriate, i’ll say, considering the occasion as well as the fact that she was representing he cohort, and not only herself.
A simple case of letting her emotions get the better of her, not using her brains to think of the consequences, or perhaps a calculated move to ensure that she gets the attention she craves…
I am a strong believer that 见人讲人话,见鬼讲鬼话,meaning speak the language appropriate for the audience. When I wore green (NSF or reservist), i was a completely different person. Even now when i meet my army friends, we sometimes use some crude language. But never in normal daily lives. -
ya la....totally not respecting those professors and teachers sitting around especially with their formal gowns.....totally disgusted....haiz there goes the reputation of NTU :lightrod:

How about someday, someone uses the same word in Hokien profanity?. Does it sound cool or hip?. Or only English so hip?. Is there any difference?
-
It’s even more interesting that she studied Communications. If sometime in the future she had to give a Press Conference, her clients would have their hearts in their mouth in case she utters a profanity out of exuberance.

After wactching the video carefully,I sincerely doubt this is a slip of tongue. It is a prepared sentence to make a statement.
What to do NTU is supporting it -
NTU released a statement on Sunday night, saying the mood was "highly-charged" at the point of her speech, and believes that she was likely to have gotten carried away. (not carried away, she is experiencing climax in the public)
Who is this FT - Dr Benjamin Detenber in the NTU. He aslo endorsed it.
Wonder what else happened in the dorms - DAYS and NIGHTS -
WCW:
Dh has mentioned that he has witnessed, quite often, quarrelling couples at neighbourhood coffeeshops throwing vulgarities at one another while the pre-schoolers watches the exchange.i was on the bus the other day, this group of students in the uniform were talking very loud, each sentence must end with the F-word... i wonder it is because the frds are using so if they dnt use can get in the grp :?
even DS in his cc learn the F-word from his frds whose parents (i met one day) are also using the F-word at their child...
I agree with other parents how youngsters have become desensitized to profanity and simply follow the crowd (or stand out in certain groups) I have always drummed to my children- you need not follow what others do. Its always about wanting to do the right thing. Respect oneself and others around you.
Apology was in order and yes, all should move on. But very disappointed with NTU's response.
