independent schools has 100% autonomy on admission discretion. so far they have taken 50% for DSA; if they wish they can take 100%.... just like NUSH who does not participate in S1 posting at all

so far the popular independent schools have been quite conservative in DSA, that is why it is so competitive to get DSA offer, and leaving 50% for PSLE score

Last year, all the IP schools admitted up to only 50% of the Secondary One places through the DSA-Sec Exercise. This year, we expect a similar proportion of places to be available for the centralised posting. NUSHS, SST and SOTA do not participate in the centralised posting.

In my interpretation, IP schools can take up to 50% by DSA. If the total intake of the IP school is 450 yearly (eg. for RI), DSA places alloted will be 225 and the balance 225 is based on PSLE results.

For the DSA, there are CO and WL. Dependent on the # of COs, those on WL will be ranked and offered based on the vacanies left after the COs.

These 225 vacancies based on PSLE results will be dependent on the applicants. The one with the highest T-score will be alloted to the school of their choice and moved down from there. So, the 225th applicant who got in the school will determine the school's COP. There is no pushing of the COP upwards or downwards in this case at all.

I supposed the school will also allot a smaller number of vacancies for appeals, and any DSA vacancies not filled by CO or WL will also contribute to this #.

Please advise if this understanding is not correct. I really do not think the school has the ability to up or down the COP which is purely determined by the PSLE allocation from MOE.

So far anyone’s ds has got CO from both NUSH and RI ?


For the case of RI WL and NUSH CO. If put RI as first choice and NUSH as 2nd and eventually not offered RI, I presume the second choice NUSH will still be given to this pupil unless the pupil did not include it as one of his choice. Is my understanding correct?

yes the public stance is up to 50% for the DSA. The objective is not to fill the 50%. The objective is to offer places to deserving students.....if not enough students, then the extras go to S1 posting

They won't know the PSLE score of the DSA WL students right since it's not submitted to them.
