Just wondering, anyone has experience how the mainstream kids feel when they enter RGS with many GEP students around them? Is the pressure unbearable given that they have gone through different years of training in their P4-P6?Hi turquoise,
The top girl from 6F and at least 2 others from 6E received offers from RGS. Seems like very few from RGPS mainstream get in to RGS via DSA. -

There’s only abt 200 gep girls each yr, not all will go to same school, mainstream students will still be the majority. Those enter RGS are high academic achievers, the mainstream gals might struggle a bit at first, with their abilities, should be able to cope in a few months. My sis’s church friend’s gal is coping well now. -

Thanks for sharing. I overlooked that point that GEP girls only about 200. Good to know it is not so bad.

My girl is from mainstream and she is in RGS now. After the first few months of struggling, she is happy and coping well now.
I agree that the gals from mainstream would need more time to adopt, but they will soon fit in. Don’t worry, just give some support that they need, mainly how to do time management. -

Hi, my girl was from main stream but as she scored above 280, she was placed in the GEP class in RGS.
She had a hard time initially definitely. As majority of the students in the class are from GEP, they already had their own click - RGPS click, ROXYTH click, NAN HUA click and so on and my girl was the only girl from her school. She felt lonely but with some encouragement for her to go mixing around, she finally managed.
As for the studies, she is ok.
Her advantage is, she can now mix with both - GEP or NON GEP. She is currently happy and mixing around with both GEP (her classmates) and non-GEP ( students from other classes) and she is still in the same GEP class in RGS - A HAPPY AND GO LUCKY GIRL ! -

Apart from social/emotional adjustments, did your daughter encounter any difficulty adjusting to the total change in teaching/learning style of a mainstream primary education vs the IP? GEP students went through 3 years of independent learning programme & were mentored on research skills in primary school. Was the transition difficult for your daughter? How has she been doing in RGS? Since her PSLE results is so excellent, did she continue to score above the 90th percentile & GPA4 in sec1? In RI, getting a GPA of 4 does not mean one's score is at or above the 90th percentile of the cohort as GPA4 means above 80marks. Many who got GPA of 4 could get very close to 100 or even beyond 100 (with bonus marks). This is very common in Maths among the boys. -

As for the results, not too sure about RI but I do not think anyone scored in the 90th percentile in her class (not even the GEP students) but not too sure about those in other classes. In fact the highest in class only obtain a GPA of about 3.8 so the RI students must be super.
I have no kids in RI now so I am not too sure about it .Is your boy from RI and achieving GPA 4 ? Maybe you can share about their standard and points with us . Thanks.
Probably I can only share with you next year when my boy goes there .
From what we understand from my girl's school, it is not so easy to achieve 90th percentile in secondary school.
Anyway I told my girl that she had done well and worked hard so now is time for her to relax a little. I told her to balance between study, play and sports. Since it is IP through train, play first , don't be so stress up - life is more than just study. So I will not be expecting her to be performing so great now. -
