      hi kabalevsky

thanks very much for your reply. i have checked out the Pat's school house thread too. i have only gone down to Pat's Raffles centre which is their new centre next to Raffles hotel. didn't really like the place coz' it's an enclosed area.

as for montessori, when i google, i found so many schools with different permutation using the montessori names. it's only when i read this thread then did i realise it's coz' they are operated by different people but what's similar is that they adopt the montessori teaching method. i'm not familiar with the montessori method tho so guess you're right, i will have to chk out the schools before deciding.

but if i may ask - why did u send your dd to montessori and ds2 to pat's? is it to try both curricula? thanks much!
no it's because their personalities and character/ strengths and weaknesses are different.

for ds2, we were overseas for 3yrs during his crucial language acquisition stage. we left when he was 1.5yo and returned only when he was almost 5yrs. he barely spoke a word of Mandarin. he could not recognise any Chinese words except his own name, yes, at 5yo.

this is despite my best efforts at speaking mandarin at home in US, but because the environment is totally American English, he just would not speak in Mandarin nor use it to reply me. he felt that he can get along with others perfectly fine in English, so Mandarin was no use to him.

when we were back, i searched for kindies and schools with strong Chinese emphasis for him. i needed something to complement what I was doing at home. something to compel him to speak and use the language. I found Pat's curriculum for Chinese excellent, and the Chinese trs at the center near my house are wonderful.

in 2 months, he was able to first recognise many more Chinese words. and in 3 months, he was able to reply me properly. although now, he still pronounces some words in an ang moh way (wrong pronunciation) but oh... he can read Chinese books and basically is well prepared for P1 Chinese now.

There are Montessori schools around here but they are all 70-80% English, not like Pat's. There are some Monte schools conducting lessons entirely in Mandarin, like Tiong Bahru's CS Montessori and the Monte school near King Albert Park. But that's too far for ds2 to travel to, on a daily basis.

For dd, she is very active, and from birth, she is super curious. She likes to touch everything and handle them. She fiddles with everything and wants to figure out how they work. I think a Montessori school will satisfy her hands-on urge and approach to learning things.

For her, Chinese is not a concern yet cos we are now in an environment where she hears and sees Chinese daily. And no rush to prepare her for P1, lol.

I could go on and on explaining why I chose different schools for different kids, like Primary schools too, but it'd make this post long and hard to read, and OT too. 🙂

      hope this is sufficient?

I am now confused whats the diffce… Anyone can help to summarize the differences?

There are also some CC that uses Montessori in their name but when questioned, they say they use a holistic teaching and use some montessori materials?!? so am back to the square one.

Anyone sent their kids to Buttercups Montessori at Clementi or Montessori for Children at Bukit Timah? Any feedback regarding these schools, like the quality of teaching/whether they are pure Montessori, etc. Am looking for a new sch for my DS who is 3.

Also can someone post the link to the Montessori Diploma? I only found one link which is to Montessorian World, does anyone know if this is good and are they accredited to the AMI? Am quite inspired to find out more.

Any feedback regarding the above would be much appreciated as I’m urgently looking for a good Montessori sch in these areas.

                        Hi

I am new here and first time posting. Felt so motivated to sending my daughter to a Monte kindy after reading the postings esp fr buds. More so, even to attend the Monte courses for parents.

I need advice and hope to receive some comments. Currently, I am sending my daughter 2 times a week to a Monte kiddy at Kovan. Not sure whether is a true monte school but she is enjoying school. The ares is quite small and I think the principal is not very well organised. Tot of changing her school beginning next year to Bridges Monte. Anyone has comment about it?

Actually my plan is N1 and N2 at monte kiddy. Then K1 and K2 at main stream maybe at Dayspring Kindy. Izzit feasible? Worried that my daughter has to adapt too many changes in environement. But I tot by letting her attend mainstream will be better prepared for P1.But at the same time, cultivate her love for learning by going Monte in N1 and N2.

Also, buds mentioned, different kids different type of school. Maybe I can share that my ger is very attentive and focus. Careful kind. But she has been more outgoing since attending school. Now she enjoy her sat class at My Gym too.

                        hmmm, how?
