How to toilet train children
-
Hi Hiya
thanks for the suggestion. Will try and see if he wants to wake up to pee into the spittoon. Hopefully he aim carefully too.
Cheers! hdbtaitai8MLR:
Hiya
How about instead of carrying him or dragging him, get a plastic spittoon 痰盂 (the type that look like a top hat when inverted), let him pee into it and empty it into the toilet, spray some Jeypine/Dettol/Lysol disinfectant, rinse and you can save your shoulder/arm. -

I would suggest that you hold the spittoon closer to his penis, so that you won't end up mopping the floor as well. Or alternatively get a bigger one. -

first thing is to get him to wake up!
Thanks a lot for coming to resue! :lol:MLR:

Hi,
I’m going to start to wean my girl off wearing diaper at night. She’s 5+, but always wakes up with a wet diaper even though she goes to the toilet before she sleeps (9pm) and her last drink of water is like 1.5hrs before sleeping.
Is there such a thing as a waterproof mattress cover? Which I can put over her mattress so that any accidents will not be absorbed into the mattress? I don’t mean the normal mattress protector which is also absorbant, like the mattress.
Appreciate some advice, tks ! -

I bought two kinds before.Hi,
I'm going to start to wean my girl off wearing diaper at night. She's 5+, but always wakes up with a wet diaper even though she goes to the toilet before she sleeps (9pm) and her last drink of water is like 1.5hrs before sleeping.
Is there such a thing as a waterproof mattress cover? Which I can put over her mattress so that any accidents will not be absorbed into the mattress? I don't mean the normal mattress protector which is also absorbant, like the mattress.

1. Plastic mat (can buy from most stores that sell baby stuff): This one is totally waterproof so you just need to lay it on her bed and wipe/wash clean after use. However, my DD didn't like this as she sweats a lot during sleeping and the mat is not breathable, even though I put the mat under her mattress cover to protect the mattress.
2. Cloth mat with rubber/plastic backing which prevents slipping too (I found this at MothersWork some years ago): This was more acceptable since it has a fabric-lined surface with a waterproof backing. I bought two and I would machine wash them, then spin dry for convenience. Over time, the rubber backing will slowly peel off and the fabric will become fuzzy and attract lint. However, by that time, my DD had stopped wetting the bed.
Note: My DD is now 7 so I sure hope there are better and more of such products on the market now. -
My boy starting toilet training at 18mths by CC. CC teachers said that he could express himself, so they wanted to give it a try. But he always ‘accident’ cos too engrossed in playing or watching TV. End up we decided to wait till he’s older.
When he was around 26mths we decided to try again. This time it was successful. There were only 4 accidents & it was because mummy was too engrossed in her TV show & did not hear him say "mummy, I want go toilet". OOPS! BAD MUMMY!
Now he’s off diapers during the day (even during nap time) & only wears diapers when we go out for long hours or go to places where toilets are far away & at night. So far we’ve tried no diapers for some nights, he’s able to hold & will wake up to pee (but we had to remind him before he sleep that he’s not wearing pampers & must wake up to pee).
Talking about toilet training reminded me of an incident last week.
Me: Baby, do you want to go toilet (me & my maid wanted to go toilet at shopping centre) or stay with daddy?
Baby: No mummy, I don’t want go toilet. I ‘shh shh’ in my pampers! Oh my pampers is so wet!
Me, my hb & my maid were laughing like mad when he said that. -

You should be able to find this at Guardian Pharmacy... Same one that the hospital uses after DW gave birth to our boy... It is cloth like on one side and plastic on the other and is disposable ie use and throw. Is there such a thing as a waterproof mattress cover? Which I can put over her mattress so that any accidents will not be absorbed into the mattress? I don't mean the normal mattress protector which is also absorbant, like the mattress.
I didnt want to get the rubber reusable ones as that is uncomfortable and too warm for DS1 to sleep on.
DS1 will be 6yrs old next week... Managed to wean him off diapers some months back:
- No drinks 1 hr before bedtime
- Must pee again just before going to bed
- We used the disposable protector, placed it between the mattress and the bedsheet (To prevent the protective mat from moving/shifting too much from it's original position) so that if there is any accident, just need to wash the bedsheet and throw away the protective mat.
- Constant reminder every night (so far only needed to remind him for the first few weeks) that he is not wearing diaper anymore and that he must wake up if he needs to pee else he will wet the his PJs and be uncomfortable, wet the mattress and will stink like h*ll and he will need to sleep on it again etc.
So far during the 1st mth of going w/o diaper, he had two accidents, first time I think he forgot that he had no diaper... Second time, he was distressed (cos didnt have his way prior to bed so was fussing etc) so peed in the middle of the night... On both occassions, he was crying and definitely felt terrible...
DW will sleeping with DS2 newborn and I was sleeping with DS1, so I was the one who got up to clean and shower DS1 at 4am in the morning *YAWN* ... Was :stupid: but resisted making DS1 feel worse, so smiled and assured him that everything is alright and gave him an assuring hug.
I think at those moments, it is impt to assure the kids rather than reprimand them for this and that.. Cos that will invariably make them feel inadequate and insecure which may result in more pee-ing accidents to occur... Given time, they will get the hang of it.
I am glad to say that after those two accidents, it's almost 6 mths and no more accidents

My boy is 2+. Bought him some toilet training pants, sweet talk him for days yet refuse to wear any. He just simply doesnot want to take his diapers off!!!!!! :x .........Since I am FTWM, I didnot really spend the effort and time to toilet train him
.....he will be attending Nursery next yr so it will be good to get him ready w/o diapers  but my MIL says when the day comes, he will be ready...........like to hear some advises. Thanks -
we will never know when the day will come until we started to train them.
I had a colleague whose son is still on diaper at the age of 7 even until now! If we dont start to train them, how would we know they are ready for toilet training in the first place? I started to train my child when he is 2 yrs old.
Intially when he turns 18mth, everyone was asking me have i started to toilet train him, and i told them how to toilet train him coz he cant even speak properly! When they told me they started to train their kids from 1 yo to 18mths, my jaws dropped!
Someone taught me, buy a potty to train him so i got him a cute little doggie potty for me and ask him to sit on it, instead he used it as a rocking chair!
Another one taught me to buy a small cup, strip him and ask him to pass urine, end up i found myself tagging behind him like a dog, keep holding the cup and ask him want to pass urine anot! The moment i walked away for a drink, i saw a puddle of "water" on the floor.
Then another colleague of mine taught me this "R-rated" method: Ask Daddy to show him how to pass urine, live example! And it works! -
\"Tagging him like a dog\"...Sound very familiar.....maybe I should get Daddy to \"live toilet train\" him instead!!!!
