Did anyone heard about SOMA Maths school, I send both of my sons there. They are using interactive games to teach kids on fraction. Their lessons are fun, easy for the kids to pick up. Kids learn a systematic ways to solve IQ puzzle.

when my dd was in K2 she did her music written exam so I had to explain some fraction concepts to do the time values...

I think the biggest challenge in Fractions is in the word problems. There are so many permutations of these.

I use to teach my DS fraction concept using playdoh. Pretty fun way to learn. I let him cut into equal pieces. If three equal pieces, it will be 1 third each. two equal pieces, half each, and so forth. I also try to link that with division.


But to teach more complex fraction operations it will be more challenging to make it fun.

These are what I observed from my niece’s learning from her tutor.

1) Understand what numerator and denominator mean. N: number of parts needed. total number of parts
2) Use of cake to understand fractions. Through here, she understands that fractions can only be formed when being cut EQUALLY.
3) Folding papers
4) The tutor then uses some magnetic fraction sets
5) Play fraction card games and board games with her other friends in the group
6) Put her knowledge into practice.

When we went to pizza hut last week, she was able to recognise fractions and kept telling me how she likes Math. I think having fun while learning is definitely beneficial to a child’s learning.
