So students without prior knowledge are definitely at a disadvantage unless the student is a true math genius. Yap, unfair right, so what to do, going to outsource Math in the coming months. So if cannot beat them, join them. Only :moneyflies: Even having remedial lessons also quite useless as 'Teaching' method still the same.

U hv another option: leave them and return to mainstream.

P4 is their 1st year in the program so lots of surprises and unknown regarding cohort, teaching methodology, syllabus, etc
P5 pressure will pick up but they will be more accustom to the program.

Looking at past trends, MOE seems to have quite a good screening and selection mechanism. Kids that got into GEP 99% will manage it, with or without external help. There are already in the top 500 of Singapore.
As long as they are not in the last 1%, I assume they will be fine.
Actually, I pity the future Gep students as the standard of the projects/assignments/test/exam keep on going up. The p4 now is doing a P6 work. Even the exam qns are getting more advanced. What a P4 exam papers are like p6 std a few years ago. πŸ˜“ I think is the same for mainstream but the GEP is really tough by itself, the future even worse. But children's thinking and abilities might not progressed so fast. Maybe a few, so quite alot of definitely need to know in advance (tuition/enrichment course), so the cycle repeat itself.

esp. when I am stressed by the teacher's indifference & mindset. But dd doesn't want lei. So what to do, need to support her, rite? Die, die must go thru it. Not going to think too much.

If it is only this particular unsupportive teacher, then to give up the prog wld be a pity. Jia you :rahrah:

Thanks Jennifer, don't going to let this particular unsupportive, arrogant teacher affect me. Going to ignore her, just πŸ™ that dd will not have her next year.

Hey Mark, if your ds is selected... hee hee... in two years time. What will you do? You keep on saying no way,no chance... I say, what if?

No way! You do remember that I have close access to how a truly gifted child is capable of ..... in this world there are kids with almost photographic memory. Unless this child I'm talking about is the gifted within the gifted, then my ds got a bit of chance to be just gifted. Confusing hor

Ok if you really wish to explore the 'what if' scenario. Figurative speaking, if by the luck of the dice ds gets selected, personally I still won't find the incentive for GEP that irresistable and here is my logic.

I think the majority of the kids in the top P6 class in PH should be able to get around 260 at the minimum, which will entitle them to have the pick of the top IP schs like RI/RG, HC/NY, NJ. I think it's a safe bet to assume that someone getting selected for GEP at P3 will most likely end up in the right half of the top P6 class. So this kid also doesn't really need the DSA that GEP offers. Some parents say that at least the DSA is a safety net, but if the kid is being over-stretched in an attempt by MOE to 'upgrade' the GEP standard annually, then there is a very expensive price to pay for this safety net. πŸ˜‚

This is how I feel, and no, I still don't think that it'll be my problem, hehe.

I will try to post some pics of the place over this weekends. Maybe you can get some clues from there.
Make sure the pictures contain some signs of places or something liddat, so that I don't need to crack my head so much. :scratchhead:

Am I right to assume that the main purpose of all this (substantial) preparation for MO competitions is for DSA?

The qn at the tip of my mind is, 'Would a P6 kid suffer in PSLE maths exam if he doesn't get any MO training?'
For my son, it is for exposure and hopefully DSA.

Does that mean 'No' to gep? Like I say, you just don't know how MOE selected GEP kids. Some of Geppers can fail Math even in P4, u know! Personally, I don't think its their fault, they must have certain std in Math, rite? else how to pass thru 2 math papers and 1 math Gat. So u know, whose fault.....

Adoi, I thought trapping people is uncle Trap's job. How come you're learning from him. πŸ˜‚

I'm not answering that qn directly only because I'm wary of appearing pompous if I say that I'll reject something that is very unlikely to be offered in the first place. My house got mirror one, you know. Keke.

All I can say is that I'm very happy for ds to remain in PH for the next 6 yrs (ding ding ding ding).

I think end of the year P will invite me on stage to receive the 'Most Exemplary Parent' award. :rotflmao:

At least you started the training early, unlike Jen's case.

Personally I'm not that keen on DSA; I prefer to let ds depend on PSLE result. But now I'm hearing that PSLE maths exam is gravitating towards MO type of qn, which poses a big challenge for me in terms of time management (to send ds for MO training in addition to normal maths tuition). I can dig deeper into my pocket (anyway only one child to support) but I can't dig out more time.

                        School dismisses early today.
Hope P6s have finished their prelims...so can take a break this weekend b4 PSLE listening compre being the next hurdle.

Yeah Will Take A Break Over this Long Holiday Weekend, and Prompt her to Do More Revision on her Weaker areas Next Week πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

I don't think you will need to prompt your daughter to revise...if she is gloomy and worried, she will be auto to revise on her own.
Anyway, all schools set tough prelim papers as a form of 'wake-up call' to the kids. The P6s need a good break today. :rahrah:
My Gal is Not Really that Auto .... Sometimes she Spent Far too Much Time on her iPhone text-ing her frenz ....
