Watching the Nomination 'live' on CNA. These are my observations and personal opinions.

TCB - speak with sincerity and dignity, can almost feel his heart for Singapore and the people of spore; stresses he wants to be a unifying figure to bring sporeans together.

TT - speak confidently and assuredly. enough said.

TJS - opens his mouth only and \"offended\" the government already. Say he wants to be the \"checks & balances\" to (quoting him) prevent the government from \"abusing their power\".

TKL - the only one to speak in 4 languages, yes, including tamil when calling for votes. And unlike the other 3, he spoke in Malay first, followed by Tamil, Chinese and English. Strange...seems like he is trying to garner the minority votes. After his speech, he even 'hi-fives' with his team of supporters on stage. Hmmm... abit making light of the serious and dignified PE, if u ask me.

like it or not, only TT and TCB are serious contenders

the other, with due respect to their braveness, will be 'also run'

            I going for TCB.

My gut feel of the end results:

            TT - 35%
            TCB - 32%
            TJS - 18%
            TKL - 15%

The more candidates the better coz TT has a good 'base' of those who don't read to begin with...

so it is 35% vs 65%, what an indictment

he could win an election but majority did not vote for him

under estimated TJS and over estimated TKL

TT is highly likely to emerge the winner due to nature of 4 corners fight.

Basically those who pro MIW or familar faces would vote for him. Those not so pro MIW or prefer a check would vote for one of the other three candidates which means votes will be diluted among the other three.

TT only needs to garner 30+ % to win

so is it correct to read that the more COE they issue, the more assured is the victory of the preferred candidate ?

so on one hand, it makes them look good not to make life difficult for COE applicant, and on the other hand, it makes endorsing the preferred candidate so much easier

the COE applicants just fell into their trick

and so it came to pass.... they should have come to read kiasuparents.com, esp TJS and TKL and TKL could have saved $48k plus other expenses

I'm pretty sure TKL and the rest knows why so many COEs were given out, which explains why he kept hinting that he will pull out after the COE issuance. As to why he chose to stay in the fight despite knowing the probable outcome, only he can answer that question.

Any way, congrats to Dr TT

However, as a PhD holder in mathematics, he must certainly know for the next 6 x 365 days that 65% or two thirds of Singapore had voted for someone else other than him to be their president

they did not realise then that the more COE would have benefited the power that be as many wannabes would have split the votes . ... it takes a PhD in maths to teach them the truth, and it is confirmed by an expert in actuary

After a good night rest, woke up to read all the comments on this forum after the election. Just want to share a few thoughts about the results.

I understand the frustration expressed by all. I did not vote for TT either like most of us here. The forum has given us the opportunity to share our thoughts. I believe everyone has the right to their opinion. I am sure there are more out there who is just to frustrated to say anything or may think "what is the point of saying what I think?" since it is already decided.

Whether they are going to change the voting process or not, I hope they can bring this up in Parliament. But the fact that this election is played by this rules, we have to accept it. No amount of talking or head banging will change that.

Its time to move on. As I have mentioned earlier, I just hope that the 3 who lost be gracious about it and say their congratulations to the winner. Also, I really hope TT will be humble in winning. He must acknowledge the majority did not vote for him. He must work hard for the next 6 years to earn my respect. He must show that he has the interests of all Singapore and has the ability to connect to the majority of Singapore. Please do that for the sake of Singapore. Do not divide us anymore. Please.

Having said all that, it occured to me as I was walking around in Suntec City yesterday afternoon. Singaporeans are just going about their business as acting as nothing has happened. We may talk about it in private but Singaporeans know that life have to go on. We don’t see people going onto the streets to protest. That I am glad.

Mebbe you're big fish mah.. most are small prawns.. 😉

Anyway, China is already a superpower and well know for disregard for humans rights.. SG is not.

If they dealt with someone and publicise it.. they will not look good on the international stage.

And if they wanna maintain SG's reputation, they cannot do too extreme..
Hmmmmm... The point is... it is not a question of insufficient resources to track. And I am not a big fish at all... Just someone who used very very strong language and presented a persuasive case against some current govt practices.

And yes... I agree with you that the govt would suffer international sanctions if it were repressive. But if a govt really did not care... and was content only with lining its own pockets, then it would not be put off by any international sanctions that would hurt its economy or international standing.

What we say on the internet does clip our govt's wings somewhat. And that is good. We should continue to give substantial feedback. All I am pointing out is that the conspiracy theories don't hold water. I don't mean to put people's backs up. I just thought that the elections are over and the time to work together has begun.
