Hmmmmm... The point is... it is not a question of insufficient resources to track. And I am not a big fish at all... Just someone who used very very strong language and presented a persuasive case against some current govt practices.

And yes... I agree with you that the govt would suffer international sanctions if it were repressive. But if a govt really did not care... and was content only with lining its own pockets, then it would not be put off by any international sanctions that would hurt its economy or international standing.

What we say on the internet does clip our govt's wings somewhat. And that is good. We should continue to give substantial feedback. All I am pointing out is that the conspiracy theories don't hold water. I don't mean to put people's backs up. I just thought that the elections are over and the time to work together has begun.

I was not sure about your purposes for these comments, and limlim has engaged some points.Your points are valid to a certain extent. However, you seem to imply

1) all of us do not think we can be tracked.
2) all of us only dare to make our comments behind the net.

Believe me, we all know everything we say on the internet can be tracked. Eg if Chief wants to, she can track any one of our IPs and it will lead to our home and us, so it is akin to speaking with our faces unveiled.. So kindly refrain from trying to scoff at our expression of our views. This has been proven by the arrest of those who wrongly make rascist remarks or those who has the intention of fraud in the forum.

basicially we are all just stating our personal opinions. Sure, we get carried away and make fun of those we do not like, but isn't that what we do amongst neighbours and colleagues too ? and yes the government today is tolerant and non-repressive to a certain extent. But there was a time, when comments like these are spoke about in public, there is a real danger of being invited for coffee.

At this age of internet, blogging and many many forums, there are bound to be some ugly comments, but as long as we are mature adults enough to NOT cross the line ( and this line is usually stretched a little more during elections in the past few years ).

None of us deny the fact that this government has its strengths and the good it has done for the country, but do note that most times we kpkb for the sake of those who are left behind, the needy, those that fall through the cracks.

And yes, the MPs today are not all good in reaching out, this is rightly pointed out by JonC. I have stated this to my previous MP when she did her door to door visits. She was a dedicated MP, but sitll many dont like her, but you gives out newsletter every month, she arranges neighbourhood trips to Malaysia, holiday celebrations, and several charity work as well. I do not mince my words to much, whenever she asked my view on the PAP. There are several who gives a bad name, and some who simply treat the MP as a status thing...the allowance helps of course. But we do see good ones.

The PM has made some changes after the GE, some I think for the better. The retirement of unpopular Mininsters, for eg. He has shown he does not want to hang on to his predecessor's apron strings, and that can only be good for us.

But we see all these genuine drive and energy at some opposition parties during the GE, we naturally want to push for more good people inside the parliament.

For this PE, on hindsight yes, it happens again. We pushed too hard. We had a chance to settle for a small change to someone like TCB, but a substantial numbe rof us tried to push for MORE too fast with someone without PAP ties. much like we led 1-0, could have accepted it and defended, but some players went for broke to make it 2 or 3, and at the end, they equalise and it ended 1-1. Status quo.

This forum has been great to share many comments and views. One reason was because it did not allow personal attacks in any form, directly or indirectly ).

The purpose was to get across the idea, backed by by own personal experience, that the PAP does not try to frighten people into voting for them, and that people (even civil servants) are not afraid, under this current regime to vote opposition, and to attend opposition rallies and be filmed and photographed there.

I am certainly sorry that you feel like you've been indirectly attacked for being insulting. The fact is, you have been insulting on more than one occasion. But then, it was probably in the heat of the moment... and due to the fact that you do care very much what happens to Singapore. And you have been VERY gracious to understand that the unflattering descriptives tread the very thin line between propriety and impropriety. Given the family friendly nature of this forum (mommies and pre-teen kids log in here), one may need to be a wee bit more vigilant about behaving like we would amongst our friends (who are all adults and perhaps mostly male) of long acquantance.

I also thank you sincerely for writing the above piece because it presents a well balanced view that can be a basis for a healthy and productive working relationship between the government and ourselves. There was no intention to attack YOU personally and I do apologise if my PERSONAL disapproval of the GENERAL practice of insulting and abusing politicians online, has dealt you a glancing blow. I did not intend it.

As the MIW always say \"this is a global world\", if cannot stay, move overseas then.

The people is the master, the MIW is the servants (LHL say that MP is to serve people before the election, remember), since when things start to turn the other way round.

A good government / management should not track but should listen and reflect if it's true, else will be out of touch and finally ship out.

From my own experience, this is exactly what the PAP did with me. Does that make it a good government then? :imanangel:

I believe, that it is a matter of fact that, most pple already lost faith in giving feedback or that MIW will listen.. They even acknowledge Publicly themselves that they are \"deaf frogs\".. (Guess it was in the MSM?)

That is why, many netizens, resort to feedback at the polls for a REAL change rather than feedback thru other channels.

Another thing is, the leader don't walk the talk or led by examples. This results in little credibility in whatever they're saying and pple are not buying into it.

As specify examples, tagging their salary to national median instead of GDP, or being CBF themselves would have made a difference.. to show their commitment to citizens.. but they just wouldn't do it.

And, we expect a good Govt to show Transparency and Accountability but unfortunately, this appears to be serious lacking. Did you give feedback about this? Did they act? Case in point, TH & Mas selamat..

Many times, what pple perceive is just \"keep out of my elite uncaring face\" attitude..

Many netizens recognise the only \"feedback\" medium that will yield results is the voting slip.

The GE2011 might have given them a sign or confidence that they have a chance.. b4 that, is like no chance.. The presence of social media in contrast to MSM might be a factor too.

One thinks that the internet gives anonymity but I know for a fact that if anyone wanted to, they CAN (and in some criminal cases) they DO track down exactly who is writing what and from where. The technology exists to do that.

This is true.
I personally knew of a case of a very clever colleague who called the internet service provider to track down somebody sending suspicious email to her. Apparently can trace the PC ID and then trace back to the subscriber. That sender got the shock of his life I am sure.

Combined votes of TCB and TJS are more than TT's in all centers. We shot ourselves in the foot again.

Another way of looking at it is that TT + TCB (both PAP men) is far more than the non-PAP faces. MIW still have some sort of mandate.

Yup. Perhaps we should have 2 Presidents.
One to balance-off the other! :evil:
Or even all 3 together as a Council of Presidents?
